Our cat is 4 months old- we bought him in December. From recent phone calls with my parents, I know that he's been suffering from skin infections and constantly scratching his wounds.
I don't know what type of infection it is - my parents are not medically-minded. The doctor gave them some sort of medicine, but the problem is... our cat just keeps scratching and scratching until the infection becomes a wound! And as soon as the wound gets better, he starts scratching and scratching again >_<
Now, my parents are really stressed. They really don't know WHAT to do. Mum's tied a scarf around our cat's head/neck, but he still continues scratching and the wound doesn't seem to be getting any better.
My parents don't dare take him to get a bath because they are afraid of the consequences with wounds and such. And it seems to be a vicious cycle because our cat keeps getting more and more "itchy spots" on his body and the scratching gets worse and worse >_

My parents are confused and stressed because...
1. Our house is squeaky clean.
2. They work from 8 in the morning to 9 at night every day (they are teachers), and they're super-tired by the time they return home. And then they have to take care of the cat and sleep only 4 hours a night!
3. The vet's not much help, saying that his own cat has never had a bath.
4. My parents simply... have no idea what to do, since this cat is our first pet.
And all this time...
I can only listen and do nothing...
Because I am thousands of miles away, at university in Scotland >_

P.S. The cat has been to the vet several times. Not much help, as I mentioned.

I suggest going to a different vet, sounds like this one has not even diagnosed him...what are the meds for...allergies, fungus, mange....what?? It would help to know what you are even treating the cat for. Is the cat on a steroid? This usually treats itching and allergies. Get him to a vet that will diagnose him and TELL you what is wrong with him so you can better treat him.

I would recommend taking it to a different vet and having a skin scraping done. Are the itchy spots all over the cats body? It may be a food allergy. Are they just behind the ears or on the neck? Could be ear mites. Does the cat smell really bad? Could be sarcoptic mange. Are they reoccurring in different spots? Could be hot spots. Could be an allergic reaction to something the cat is getting in if the cat has access outside. If they have already taken the cat to a different vet for a second opinoin, I would recommend trying a different food.

I think you should take your cat to the vet asap. If the wounds are infected he will need anti-biotics. The vet should also be able to find out what is causing the irritations.

try giving the cat 12.5mg of benadryl twice a day that might help with the itching. if that doesn't do anything in 2 days get the cat back to vet. maybe try a different vet.

Get a second opinion ASAP, so the poor dear does not suffer any more. May need to see a veterinary dermatologist
