Me? I prefer a bottle of red.
In fact, the heavier the red, the better. I work in the wine trade, and have found that more people are buying red wine than white.
So, take a tip, ask your local friendly wine seller what they suggest. You'll always get a decent answer, usually for free!

For the most part, my choice would be a bottle of white, unless I know that the bottle of red being AMAZING! Red wines have to completely wow me over for me to consider buying it but most white wines I will try once and if I like try again.

My favorite type of wine is red. I like drinking Shiraz( Australian grape) when I am having pasta, lamb chop, beef or pizza. It has that spicy and also fruity finish to it. The inexpensive but excellent wine is the Lindemans Bin 50 Shiraz for about $7.

It all depends upon your appetite. If it's to be drunk with a meal pick either one to suit the food. A nice pinot noir works most of the time for me for a red and a nice crisp food friendly sauvignon blanc from New Zealand perhaps for a white.

I love both
Really in a Spain / Southern Rhone / Portugal phase right now
just popped in my head: Love Heitz Ink Grade "Port" (yes it's from Cali, but they do at least use all the traditional varietals)
most interesting: rare ~varietal~ bottling (not a meritage blend) of petit verdot I sampled at a trade tasting (it was being auctioned later that evening)

Usually red - gamay or merlot by choice.
Sometimes white - a crisp Loire wine like Quincy hits the spot!
A good wine is good. There are bad wines of all colours!

As a general rule, I prefer red but with certain foods I like white, especially seafood, unless it is spicy like Shrimp Fra Diavlo.
