I must agree, the prices are so low and it's absolutely out of mind to buy anything else but DVD recorder. Just to mention, CD has capacity of +/-700mb, and there are DVDs with 4,3 or 8,7gb. So you can store more than 10cd's on just one DVD.

I think you should get the combination that has two seperate slots for whether you want to put in an instalation disk, or play a dvd. And the other one is the CD-burner. It's nice to have both options.

here in Australia the new Pioneer 112 Dual Layer DVD Burner is around the $80 mark including the Nero burning software...at that sort of pricing you shouldnt even be considering replacing the faulty drive with just a cd rom drive

Get a DVD recorder. You can use it to play and burn both CDs and DVDs. The prices are so low, that you shouldn't even think of buying a CD recorder.

ya a dvd drive is the way to go. They can read cds and dvds nothing is different it just gives you more options and they arn't much more expensive
