You should approach him like you don't know that he knows and just talk to him. Ask him out already. What do you have to lose? Waiting only strings along a simple hope and dream, but doesn't bring it any closer to reality. Go for it.

Get one of your friends to tell him you like him. Then hopefully he will ask you out. But If you really want get your friend to also say that he should try asking you out.

ask him what? if he likes you, or if he'll go out with you? if you really like him get to know him before dating him (trust me from experience) then go ahead. feel free to ask him if he likes you anytime you want, but don't be too confrontational about it or you may just push him away. good luck
