I never had a dog . But now I do its a Mexican Chihuaha and terrier mix. Hes about 1yr. old. I'm trying to understand him a little. For one thing hes a very finicky eater. Sometimes he withdraws from my husband and me. This is so much unlike him because he has consistently been socialable. We noticed he seems to shake a lot when he feels scared or insecure. Does anyone have similar experiences with their dog?

The act of shaking is the bodies way of getting the blood to centralize in the body, instead of the legs..When a big dog is excited, they shake to give them a burst of energy..either for playing, fighting, or running..It is not a symptom of illness..Many Chihuahuas just do that.
As they are so small, they needed to be prepared to run, at just any time..so they were shaky to 'feed' the body energy, always ready to run from danger (they were a wild dog)
The only time it is a symptom that all is not well, is if it has been too long between meals, and they are trying to conserve their blood sugar to 'feed' the important internal organs..

If the shaking is bothering you, wrap him in a warm towel, and he will settle down..

Chihuahuas are shaky dogs. Every chihuahua I have come by has done this. He is possibly seeking comfort from something he doesn't like. Its a bad habit to protect him or hold him if he's shaking because he is afraid of new people because it can lead to agression. It could also mean he is cold, so maybe your house is too cold. Maybe turn up the heat two or three degrees.

Try watching the Dog whisperer. He deals with scardy dogs all the time, you could learn from him.

If u look at all chihuahuas, they all do it. Its probalby cause its cold. Or excited. My dog (except hes a chocolate lab so big differance) just started shaking, and hes 3 yrs. old, when hes excited. But since your dog is withdrawing and isnt eating as much it could be soemthing like seizures. I would bring him to a vet. But dont fret over it to much its proably nothing serious. Sorry couldn't be of more help but i dont know to much about chihuahuas. How to spell the name is hard enough!.
Hope this helps!

Sounds like a medical problem see a Vet. The shaking is from the small Mexican breeds have a sensitivity of nerves and get frightened of larger beings
unless they are raised with bigger pups, then they learn to be equal to the bigger pups in play and feeding. Then they are more normal usually.

Chihuahuas have a natural tendency to shake. There is no "cure" for this...

I have a chihuahua also... he doesn the same thing.

You have no cause for concern. It isn't because he is cold or scared... it's just in their nature.

my chihuahua does this also I talked to my vet about this and he told me that it's either nerves, it's cold, or they could be having a seizure.

maybe the dog is reacting to the "ESP" ...of your nerves...ya know, maybe you are subconciously transmitting your nerves about something - into, HIM!....hum....lol!...just kidding mom!
