I am curious about the physical requirements to be able to learn accupunture. Massage therapy seems to hurt folks backs and wrists and thumbs because it requires so much strength. This is a serious question.

Acupuncture does not require much strength. It is more of an art. Inserting a needle takes a little practice to pierce the skin but with the hollow tubes some needles come with it is simply a matter of tapping the end of the needle with your finger.

It is a very effective practice and can provide more help for someone than massage therapy, not that massage doesn't have its place.

First of all, I teach and work as a massage therapist. I do tai chi and yoga . Years ago , I took Karate for 2 years and loved it. I got into Massage because of a friend that did it, and I was looking for something different. It is finally popular in the West because I believe that people here are also looking for alternative means of health care. There are many forms of massage and I believe that most of them have made their way to the west. I am sure there are some forms of massage that we have not discovered here yet, but there are so many now. email me if you have more questions about this.

From what I understand it requires more knowing the pressure points and areas where to put the needles.
