I think the best thing for you to do is to join a Yahoo group for feline leukemia as the members of the groups are dealing with this issue with their cats and kittens. I am a member of a couple of groups of people dealing with feline cancer. I just checked out the group listings for that - there are even rescue groups for adoption or fostering of leukemia positive cats so you might find a little friend for him.

The people in the groups are dealing with the same issues you are. You will find support there and probably good ideas as to treatment, dietary issues, etc. I am sure that a quality diet and maybe supplements to keep his immune system strong will be very important for him

Good luck with your baby and I hope he will have a good life and he will as it is apparent you are willing to do anything that will make him healthier and happier.

Show him lots of love and affection! Since he can't interact with the other kitties, give him special treats or toys that the other cats don't get. If you keep him isolated, maybe get him a fish tank - it's something that will keep him entertained when no one is home. Just do your best to make him feel special and loved.

Im so sorry i had to put two cats down from that. The first one, Olive, was proably 1yrs old. he was acting so weird he was constantly tiresd shedding and his breath was sooo bad, and his eyes were constanly gooey so we brought him to the vets and they told us we decided to put him down because u could tell he wasn't him self. THen the other one, Buckwheat, was just a kitten. He never showed signs he was a normal kitten. But when we brought him to the vets for his kittne checkup they told us we decided to put him down because we knew how his life would be, and that his helath would just be going down hill from there. Then Olives brother, Oreo, who we gave to a friend (we origially got both Olive and Oreo but we couldn't keep them both) developed it they decided to give it treatment and it lived a happy health as far as i know. But treatment for it is VERY expensive thats why we chose to put our cats down. If u are unable to afford treatment my advice, and its hard to say because i know what its like, is to put Tonka down. Hes only gonna get worse. Plus like u said its very contagious and even after Tonka is gone the virus can stay in oyur house and your next animal can get it. It can even travel to other pets as far as i know. i know its very hard and it breaks my heart that u r going threw this but ask u this, do u really want to see your playfull happy baby wake up one day barely able to get up losing her fear and jsut sleeping all day? God its so hard to write this and im sorry but that is my honest opinion, dont make him suffer even if hes not showing signs right now he will. Either get him treatment or if u cant put him down before he starts "feelng it". Remember if u put him down now all he will remeber will be being able to live a happy playfull energetic life not a sick life.
