You say 'get annihilated in hell'... According to the Bible, people live in hell. They continue to reside there for all eternity. People don't want to believe this, and are free to choose not to believe it. But it is not even open to debate. There is no gray area in the scriptures. According to the Bible, hell does exist and it is the final place of residents for certain soul.

Many passages talk about certain sins leading to eternal damnation.

The Bible also says that only those who believe in Christ go to heaven. This would suggest that non-believers go to hell, since you can end up in only one of two places after you die.

Again, this is what the Bible says. Some of it is hotly (no pun intended) debated by scholars and theologians, faithful and non-believing alike. What happens to people of other faiths? What happens to atheists? I do not know.
