The divide between rich and poor grows.

More disease than ever, more hungry, more drug addicts.

More war, in fact we can blow the world up a million times, you know who controls the most nuclear weapons? A Christian. (Dubya)

You think with 2.1 Billion people trying to live like Christ the world would be a better place. i mean if one guy being Jesus could spread a message of love thy neighbour, and peace so far, why can't 2.1 Billion people blessed by God do anything.

Yes, I recognize some Christians do good deeds, but really almsot one third of the population with the same mind set should be able to amke this Earth a good place for everyone regards what one believes.

Maybe if you stopped focusing on the next life.

I got a new book, it's the BIFLTL

Basic Instructions For Living this Life.

Sorry if it's not as catchy.

"What have you done today to make the world a better place?"

Shown christians that they need to focus on this Earth, and the people in it more than their own salvation and their God.

"People should have to take a test before aking questions here.
This is so silly that one loses inteligence by having to stoop to the level of ignorance such as this that parades it self foolishly as wisdom."

So silly you can't even answer it? Why can't 2.1 Billion people who preach love and kindness even improve the Earth let alone stop its decline?

Let he without sin huh.....coward.

"There is not more disease in the world. A few hundred years ago, people only averaged a life span of about 45 or 50. Today, we live much longer than that."

AIDS, Bird Flu, both new, we haven't cured anything since what? polio? We can sustain living with disease, but not cure it.

"There is not more war in the world. World War II killed 55 million people...."

That was only 60 years ago. And that war, along with the Iraq war both started by Christians.

"The divide between rich and poor was MUCH greater in years gone by."

My manager made more after 1 year 25 YEARS ago then I do now. The divide grows trust me.

Jeez Louise man, this is a simple question directly answered in Scripture. I don't even NEED scripture to answer it though. Life is what you make regardless of your circumstance. The horrid conditions in some places are a direct result of the ignorance of the Grandfathers, the ignorance of the Fathers, and the ignorance of the individual. Only the Children are innocent of the way. When man decides to rise up and throw off the yoke of oppression these things change. Not until. Freedom, Prosperity, education only comes from the heart of man and his willingness to sacrifice his own comfort to those who come after. In that process YOUR life will improve my son. Trust me, I know that of which I speak.

Christ explains quite clearly how to make this happen. Open your heart to heaven. The way is narrow, the pitfalls are many, yet the rewards for ones progeny AND ones self are many.

If you think Polio is the last thing we cured you are just wrong. Heart surgery has saved MILLIONS. Cancer treatments have saved MILLIONS. Every Year your tax dollar goes to save THOUSANDS all over the world, Yesterday in America over 50 Million children went to school and they got home to their families fine, 10 Millions went on vacation yesterday and are fine, You woke up this morning didn't you? And you expect to tommorow? For me 50/50 I wake up in the morning.

Get a little perspective son.....

Suffering in the world has nothing to do with Christianity being right.

As long as money still exists, there will ALWAYS be a vast separation of the rich and the poor.

War is a necessary evil that, in the long run, people NEED for civilization to evolve. Have you ever thought about what would happen if WWII never happened? The entire world would collapse from Hitler tapping every last natural and economic resource and all human civilization would be dead.

The 2.1 billion people trying to live like Christ are TRYING to make the world a better place, but too many people just refuse to listen. A Christian tells a non-Christian that Jesus is the light and the way and is all too often met with animosity and violence.

The world's not in a bad state because Christianity is wrong; the world's in a bad state because Homo sapiens doggedly refuse to die.

Actually, much of what you say is not true.

There is not more disease in the world. A few hundred years ago, people only averaged a life span of about 45 or 50. Today, we live much longer than that.

There is not more war in the world. World War II killed 55 million people -- we don't have anywhere near that happening today. A long time ago, wars killed hundreds of thousands of people, if not millions. Not happening today.

The divide between rich and poor was MUCH greater in years gone by.

Rewind back to the Middle Ages. Do you think everyone was living in palaces and riding around in nice carriages, like you see in the movies?

Hardly. A tiny few lived like that -- while most of the rest of the people were living in absolute squalor as peasants.

This is not happening today -- at least not in most countries which are majority Christian.

The truth is, we live longer, we cure far more diseases, we live in better conditions, we have more interesting jobs, we eat better food and drink cleaner water, than anybody else ever in human history.

Sorry, but I think you have some misinformed ideas about the state of the world today, compared to previous ages.

Despite the world's flaws, you are probably living in the best time ever in human history.

And, with God's help, it will only get better.

You don't need a new book. The old was is quite effective in living this life. As far as why is the world still a crapy place to live...simple. Not enough people (Christian or otherwise) who are willing to step out and make a difference. Many Christians (me included) often have the thought that it is someone else's job to change the world we live in. We all hate what we see happening but don't take the actions to change it. And, when it comes right down to it, it wouldn't be all that hard to do if we could only all come together to do it. (I am not talking about a one world religion) I mean just joining together as people who have a steady moral compass to make changes that will be a positive effect on humanity. What that means is to be willing to fight those that create evil in our society.

For example, when was the last time you refused to buy a certain product because that company was sponsoring a show depicting casual sex, drug use or violence on TV? Have you ever? When was the last time you gave up that can of soda every day for a month and instead brought food to a food bank? Have you ever? When was the last time you said No when somebody wanted you to go out and get yourself high or drunk? If we do not take the actions, nothing is going to change.

BTW, Christians do not focus only the next life. We are focused on what God wants us to do in this life. But, just as with non Christians, we are more tied up in ourselves and our lives than with others. Jesus greatest command to us before he left this earth was "Love one another as I have loved you."

And, as long as I am on a tirade, how many Christians out there spend their prayer time praying for someone else instead of for themselves? I am as guilty as the rest of you. My prayers usually include, help me to be a better person or forgive my sins Lord etc. Maybe it's time we forget about ourselves too.

How many people do you know that conciously try to live for Christ? I am a Christian, unworthy of that honorable name, and I know we are in the minority, are you kidding me? You can't be serious, I think everyone knows that true Christinity and cultural Christianity are different but unbelievers or mockers just like to taek advantage of any opportunity to put Christianity down instead of using their brains to see that the way they lump things together is altogether dishonest or so ignorant it is unbelievable.
I would say the truth is obvious, that most of the world is filled with unbelievers who happen to belong to a culture influenced by Christianity and Western Civilization or other religions but there are only a minority of true believers anywhere.

"You never judge a world view by its abuse"
-Augustine
"I like their Christ, but I don't like their Christian"
- Mahatma Ghandi

Don't judge Christianity based on the millions who have misrepresented it. Look at it as Christ meant for it to be seen (and acted out). The Bible IS instructions for living this life. Just because the world is "a crappy place to live" (which begs the question, compared to where?) doesn't mean that Christianity has failed. If the world was perfect, why would we want heaven in the afterlife?

I hope we all can reflect on the bible and relearn what it means to be a Christian. Remember what Christ did and open up your heart to Him, friend.

There are over 2 billion "professing" Christians.....the actual figure is far less...I would be surprised if there are even 1/4 of a billion. I am not being judgemental but Jesus said that the way is narrow and few find and walk it. Jesus also said that at the judgement..many would say,Lord,Lord, did we not do many good works and prophecy in your name..and He will proclaim to them..:Depart from me workers of lawlessness I NEVER KNEW YOU....very scary and sobering stuff even for the devout follower.

If there were even 1 billion "real" Christians...we would be much closer to paradise.

The divide between rich and poor has never been less in history; think of what it was like in the time of Jesus (thank science, not religion)

We have LESS disease than ever, not more (thank science, not religion)

War has been a constant throughout history, and we are at a low point in terms of % of the population at war.

All that being said, with Christianity and Islam being as huge and peace-loving as they both claim to be, we should be far better off than we are.

In the beginning God completely sustained His creation without blemish. That’s why it was perfect. He held every atom together in a perfect state. He kept the planets in their orbits. He kept animals from tripping and breaking their necks. He did not allow people to suffer and die.
Deuteronomy 8:4 gives us a little glimpse of how things might have been in the original creation. “Thy raiment waxed not old upon thee, neither did thy foot swell, these forty years.” God is omnipotent and perfectly capable of sustaining and protecting his creation.
When Adam sinned, however, the Lord cursed the universe. In essence there was a change and along with that change God seemingly took away a little bit of his sustaining power and allowed things like suffering and death into His creation. Now He permits bad things to happen—and this is a reminder that sin has consequences and that the world needs a Savior. Romans 8:22 says, “For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.”

God took pleasure in all of His creation ("http://bible.gospelcom.net/bible?passage=revelation+4:11&version=NKJV"), but He loved people most of all. He allowed the created universe to deteriorate so we would see the consequences of our sin. If we did not see the consequences of our sin, we would never see that we need salvation from our sin, and we would never accept His offer of mercy for our sin. Most people easily recognize that there is a problem in the world. This can be used to show them that there is one who has overcome this problem of death and suffering—Jesus Christ.

The world is a beautful place, but sin, satan and the sinners who refuse to obey God's word are what makes things ugly. People don't want to live according to God's word, and they insist on living without Him or His leadership and guidance, and then when they get sick they blame it all on God. It's their own fault, not God's fault. Sin and satan are ugly, and decays the beauty in our world like a cancer.

I live for the Lord, and my life is perfect even with it's hardest of times, becasue I dont have to go through them alone. I have Jesus with me always. Praise the Lord!

Bible stands for Basic instructions before leaving earth. Praise the Lord!
