My godmother has a yellow lab dog who was not fixed. Right now she's 1 year old. We were wondering when she would get her period.

She's not my dog. Seriously, otherwise I wouldn't be asking this question. But anyhow, after my godmother got her, when she was about 1 month old, she got really crazy and won't stop teething on people's fingers. My godmother heard something from somewhere. It goes "Chew till they're 2, shed till they're dead." Well, she's certainly chewing till she's 2. We can't tell when she goes through heat because she's been acting crazy since she was one month old, and she's only calm when she sleeps. Also the dog (her name's Lacey) still isn't potty trained. If she goes outside, she eats everything. SHe eats rocks, leaves, cigarette butts, cigars, chews gum, eats sticks, grass, and some other stuff. That's why she's not potty trained, because if she goes out she doesn't go to the bathroom, she eats things. Lacey chews on the weewee pads, so they didn't work. Anyone have any advice on all these problems? Is this mostly cuz she wasn't fixed? My godmother just keeps putting it off. So, not my fault

But really, she's not mine I have a dog, and she was fixed when we adopted her. we didn't want accidental pregnancies, or anything like that. she's perfectly fine, unlike my godmother's dog.

Depends on the dog. She should have came into heat at 6 months. Maybe you missed it the first time. Some people do. then again some dogs come into heat later. I had a female that never came into heat and she is now 13 years old. If you are concerned about it maybe you should talk this over with your vet. Just wait a while and keep checking her she may come into heat soon.

Get her trained and under control when you're outside. Eating all of that garbage is either going to make her sick or kill her. The chewing is usually a result of teething but she should have stopped it by now if she was being properly monitored for behavior changes. Now she's chewing because (a) she likes to (b) she's bored or (c) nobody has discouraged the behavior. Get her spayed and you won't have to worry about her going in season. Get her trained and some of her more disgusting habits will go away.

Usually dogs start to get their period around 1-2 years old. They don't stop until 7-8 years old. Good luck with those messes.....!!!

she should go into heat between 1 and 2 years also if you guys aren't planning on breeding her you should get her spayed so you don't have an accidental pregnancy on your hands!

She could have already come into her first heat. The first one is usually so light that you might miss it, unless you are really looking for it. It is usual to have the first heat around 9mo.
