You know, when he starts doing all sorts of miracles and stuff that not only catch the general populations attention;but also gets the scientific communities attention becuase he'll probably tell them how he did the miracles and stuff. Will you bow down and follow this person? Or will you get wise and remember that despite the signs and wonders, it's not good for your spirit to give any type of alligence to this person?

Mark 13:22-For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect.

2Thessalonians 2:9-Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,

Hey Maurice, You seem like a nice guy so I won't completely bash your beliefs, but You have to realize these people you are talking about are "Fictional" characters. They don't exist, they never will exist, The sooner you can realize that, the happier I'm sure your life will be. Referencing Bible verses is like quoting from Curious George books. It has absolutely no effect on us. We not only don't believe in "God" But we know with every bit of who we are that he doesn't exist. Why do you spend so much time sitting around trying to convince us? We don't need to believe in a God to feel complete, or feel good about ourselves. It's as simple as that. We have faith in ourselves.

So you're saying that someone will convince people to follow him by performing miracles and that a wise person will ignore these miracles and not follow the person? So why do people follow Jesus? By your own statement we won't know who the antichrist is, so the only information you have to identify him is someone who performs miracles to seek followers. Jesus is said to have done that.

But of course we atheists do not believe that the antichrist exists so obviously we don't believe that it would even be possible for us to follow him. Also miracles, by definition, cannot be explained scientifically.

Didn't you just describe Jesus Christ and his followers?

Either way, yes I would praise (I am not a "follower") that person. I don't believe Christ was the son of God anymore than you or I am. The same applies to your anti-christ. If someone came forward and cured world hunger and AIDS simultaneously and then showed others how to do so, I would be pretty impressed.

Well, Maurice, let's start by saying that the word you are groping for is "atheist," not "athiest." I believe you are asking your question of all atheists, so you'd have to use the plural form of the word.

Imagine my surprise at the strange logic behind the question, "Will you follow the anti-Christ (remember you won't actually know it's him)

First, atheists don't believe in Christ, so it would be rather silly to assume that they would believe in the anti-Christ. Do you believe in the anti-Santa?

Second, how would someone know if one were following the anti-Christ, when one "won't even know it's him?"

Third, your references to Scripture, while I'm sure they are important to you, are not at all persuasive to those who don't believe that Scripture is the word of God, because they don't believe God exists. No God, no word of God.

You clearly don't know very much about Atheists. We don't follow people because they claim that they're able to perform "miracles and stuff", and there is one reason for that... we aren't fooled by these people.

I think you'll find that believers are far more likely to follow people that seem to be able to perform miracles.

I'm not a sheep so the answer is no. I'm not going to start following around some wacko who claims to be able to perform miracles like the rest of you sheep. Baaaaaaa

I bet they would. They of course wouldn't know that he was the anti-Christ, but they would follow him because he is giving scientific answers to disprove God. It's kind of in a way like that Dawkins guy.

Now, why exactly would I want to bow to someone? I am very happily in charge of my own life.

BTW, your entire question set up doesn't make sense. Why do you ask people that don't believe in a being if they'll follow that being?

Maurice, you're mistaken in your view of atheists. We're not particularly inclined to bow to or follow anyone. We may note something as interesting, but we are not of a disposition to being someone's subject, servant, for follower.

Not everyone is a sheep.

You forget that atheists don't believe in any kind of spiritual deity. So following the anti christ won't work for them. I'm pagan and I know this.
