If I remember correctly they were a rugby team. I might be wrong, it has been years since I read the book. In all seriousness, some of the survivors were very concerned and consulted a priest with this question. Catholic guilt plus survivors' guilt equals a LOT of guilt. Keep in mind the survivors did not kill their friends and teammates, the plane crash did. Long story short the priest told them that they did not commit a sin. They did what they had to do to survive under extreme circumstances.

if you ate a soccer team...god would be pretty pissed...there is no commandment about cannibalism..but if you killed and then ate then killing is your sin

Depends on who you eat. If it's an infidel, eat more. If not, well he doesn't exist anyways so oh well.
