I just had a conversation with a guy that I know. I just walked up to him and asked, "you don't like me do you?" He was taken aback and naturally denied it. I brought up the fact that whenever we cross paths he looks the other way when saying "hi" or something. He said, "Well...I don't do it consciously. I'm sorry if I do, I don't do it on purpose." That is what caught me. He actually does not look at me when passing by; he isn't rude or anything, but he just talks to the wall almost. (well, when I was just talking to him, we had a face-to-face little conversation. He didn't appear nervous, but he looked and seemed like he liked it that I was talking to him) There have been other instances where I looked at him and when he looked at me -- zip! he wasn't looking at me anymore. I once caught him looking at me and zip! again he really tried to look somewhere else. So, IF he said was true about not consciously looking away, does that mean he might subconsciously like me?

Based on what he said I think either he likes you and he's a little shy about it, or he just has trouble looking directly at people. It does not sound as if he doesn't like you.
If you're looking for a date, you might have to make the first move with this guy.

Well, that might be because he fancies you but he finds your personality really strong which intimidates him or there might be something about your look that he finds intriguing or scary.

Sounds to me that at the very least he's shy. He might like you or not, can't tell.

possibly he likes you, possibly you just made him feel really uncomfortable. but i would think he would have told you when you outright asked him.
