I am not a doctor by no means but I do take topamax and have been taking it for many yrs now.It can cause weight loss in some people.I have never heard of it being used to specifically treat obesity before.It is usually used for seizures and migraine headaches.I do not recommend taking it if you plan on having a baby anytime soon as it can some birth defects I do believe.

well, its not intended for weight loss, its for migraines. I doubt it will have any effects for weight loss, i think its just a medication that doesnt cause the weight gain that other meds do. no meds are safe to use in a way that theyre not intended-look at what happened with anna nicole:( be on the safe side and ask your doc
