I was wondering what modern religions say about the moon. I know there was old mythology, like the Greeks, that had outragious stories about the moon. Is the moon mentioned in any of the scripture for modern religions?

The Moon is referenced by Paul, in early Christian writings. He compared the brightness, or glory, of the moon to the middle of three possible heavenly kingdoms we will be judged to enter. The moon is the middle "glory" as compared to the glory of the sun and the stars.

If you think of Christianity as a modern religion, and the book of Genesis part of Christianity, then you will find the moon ruled the night. Of course, the didn't know much about light, when the story was first told. In fact, they thought that the sun and moon were illuminated by our eyes. It wasn't until a few centuries ago that the Holy Roman Church apologized for this misconception. Now they believe that Genesis was talking about a different sort of light. Go figure.

many modern pagan faiths believe as the ancients did: that the moon is a symbol for the Female Divine, the Goddess in wicca. also know that the "outragous stories" are all symbolism & that they probably didnt believe them at face value. the moon has always been an important religious symbol to many culture & religions. Note* not all modern religions r monotheistic or have scriptures.

In Islam we have some verses which mention the moon,

check them out

[041:037] And from among His Signs are the night and the day, and the sun and the moon. Prostrate yourselves not to the sun nor to the moon, but prostrate yourselves to God Who created them, if you (really) worship Him.

[036:039] And the moon, We have measured for it mansions (to traverse) till it returns like the old dried curved date stalk.

[036:040] It is not for the sun to overtake the moon, nor does the night outstrip the day. They all float, each in an orbit.

[029:061] And if you were to ask them: "Who has created the heavens and the earth and subjected the sun and the moon?" they will surely reply: "God." How then are they deviating (as polytheists and disbelievers)?

[055:005] The sun and the moon run on their fixed courses (exactly) calculated with measured out stages for each (for reckoning).

[016:012] And He has subjected to you the night and the day, and the sun and the moon; and the stars are subjected by His Command. Surely, in this are proofs for a people who understand.

[014:033] And He has made the sun and the moon, both constantly pursuing their courses, to be of service to you; and He has made the night and the day to be of service to you.

[035:013] He merges the night into the day (i.e. the decrease in the hours of the night is added to the hours of the day), and He merges the day into the night (i.e. the decrease in the hours of the day is added to the hours of the night). And He has subjected the sun and the moon, each runs its course for a term appointed. Such is God, your Lord; His is the kingdom. And those, whom you invoke or call upon instead of Him, own not even a Qitmîr (the thin membrane over the date stone).

[025:061] Blessed is He (God) Who has placed in the heaven big stars, and has placed therein a great lamp (sun), and a moon giving light.

Peace Be With You

Islam is based on the worship of the arabic pagan moon god allah. This is why most mosques have a crescent moon on top of them, and the muslim calendar is based on lunar, not solar cycles. Since it helps them try to establish muhammad's credibility as a prophet, muslims also claim muhammad reached up and split the moon in half with his sword, thus performing a miracle.
Of course this did not happen. As we can clearly see the moon is not split in half nor was it split at the time muhammad was alive. When America sent men to the moon and found that it was not split, muslims hated it because this became more proof that islam is based on lies, and muslim terrorists have been murdering as many Americans as they can since then in a vain attempt top keep us from proving that islam is based on the lies of a criminal who most definitely was not a prophet of the true God of the Bible.
Islam, the religion based on worship of the arab pagan moon god allah is all about the moon, and no Son...

The moon is mentioned fairly prominently in the Torah and other Jewish Scriptures. It is what sets the calendar and keeps the cycle of the Jewish year in synch.

The Jewish people are also compared to the moon in that, just as the moon waxes and wanes through its monthly cycles, so to do the Jews through history.

From the Christian angle, the moon has very little written about it (if anything at all). Just part of the cosmos.
