I bought it a few days ago, but apparently it's not the one I needed. It's never opened, just the wrong product. I also lost my receipt. Do you think BestBuy will allow a return? Can I possibly get a merchandise/store credit?

They changed during last Christmas. I tried to return a Christmas present (unopened DVD set, wrong aspect ratio, Best Buy price sticker on it) without a receipt and they wouldn't exchange it for the full amount. They only wanted to give me the lowest sale price in the last 60 days as credit -- and of course the sale was long over. I'd have to pay $8 more for the identical DVD set in the different aspect ratio (it was in stock on their shelf).

I got the receipt from the gift giver, got a full cash refund, and spent it at a competitor. Now I don't buy anything at Best Buy unless I know 100% that I'm going to keep it.

Good Luck -- maybe you don't have a lame store. But don't be surprised if you're offered a lot less than you paid for it!

Yes, you can. If you paid with credit card, they can look up receipt in their system with the number of the credit card used at the time of purchase. If it was paid cash, they will offer store credit. That's what happened to me.

Hi Euges,

I had lost my receipt and Best Buy let me exchange it. It was a defective DVD player. They said they wouldn't refund my money but would exchange it.

I don't know of ANY place that allows returns without a receipt.
