If you do, tell me.

I have a Doberman, Named hammer. he is my 11th dobie. I've been raised with dobermans, and they are the best breed ever! dont beleive me, then check out the stats..
I saved him from a shelter when he was 11 months old, he is pure bred, but his first owners couldnt keep him anymore because they already paid too much for him " a thousand dollars" and they didnt want to keep up with him, so they dropped him off at the shelter when he was 3 months old. he then was adopted agian at 9 months, but he got loose, but when the shelter picked him up, the second owners didnt want him, they said that he was too big and stalky, and they just didnt want him anymore, he was too affectionate. and they didnt have time for that. and when i came in to look for a dobe with my father, the shelter said he only had the weekend to live, it was friday! I adopted him immeadiataly. Now he is being police trained by me, bc all my dobes were. and now he is the best obediant dobie ever!

he is the best thing i have had in my life so far, and alot of people congradulate me on saving him, but i cant help to think inside that he has saved me in more ways then i can count!

Aside from them statistically being the second smartest breed of dog, they are loyal. They are thing of beauty when they are running at a full sprint and there territorial protection of your property is unmatched.

I also grew up with them and of all the different breeds of dogs I have had, they will always be my favorite.

I have been around Dobermans most of my life. I've been owned by 7 of them (currently 5) over the last 21 yrs. My oldest male Zeus will be 12 yrs old in July, but you'd never believe he was a senior if you saw him in the yard. Lily & Dolly are full sisters 18 months apart, then Zeke he's 3. All of them are black/rust. Then there Little Miss Penny... she's my red baby, she is just 17 wks.

Light-hearted Lady Jasmine & Isheba...dearly missed.

I wouldn't have it any other way or any other breed. No offense to other breeds, but I love my dobermans!

My husband and I have also helped rescue, foster and home 9 less fortunate dobes! We can't help them all (wish I could) but we help were we can.

I have never had a Doberman, but I love the breed! Alot of people say that they are cruel and mean, but I know they are lovable animals who just know how to protect themselves or ones they love. And can we blame them? Why do people treat animals bad when they proctect their loved ones but not humans? Anyways one day I hope I can rescue a Dobie, that would be a great privlege to me.

If you have a dog the 'destroys' legal selected items then you are lucky. Some dogs that have destructive behaviors go for couches, walls, doors, shoes, tv remotes, kleenexs, etc.

Destructive behavior can be one of the symptoms of separation anxiety but from what you've described it seems like totally appropriate behavior.

Some dogs, not matter what breed, a more into chewing and dissecting then other BUT all dogs require a legal outlet for their natural canine tendencies.

I actually encourage my clients to provide their dogs with anything (as long as it's safe and may require supervision) for them to destroy, chew and dissect. It's mentally healthy for them to behave as dogs. It only really becomes a behavioral issue is you limit any such activity to take place.

I used to buy the huge Easter bunnies after easter from Safeway grocery store. They were about 4 ft tall and for about $8. My female Doberman would suckle on it, carry it around, use it as a pillow and then about 1 month into it - make a hole and dissect the entire toy.

Plush Toys: supervision only - can be fatal if eating stuffing- You can remove the fluff and place rags into the toy carcass

Ropes - let his at it - superivison and remove once the rope is shredded so to limit ingestion

Tennis balls: supervision only. Some can pop them and some can get more then one ball in their mouth - high choking danger. Not to mention if he plukes the fuzz of the ball he might wear down his teeth

There are some really hard toys and deer antleers.

I love dobies. If i could have a dog, I would definitly consider a dobie.

My parents friends had a dobie that i used to babysit whenever they went away. It loved to sit on people's laps even though it was huge, such a sweetie

My uncle had a doberman when I was growing up and I just loved him! His name was Max. He was a good family dog. His funny habit was that he would eat t-shirts whole! My uncle would have to give him medicine to get him to pass them.
