food.
that person habayeb is wrong.
it is a personal choice to eat food that is slaughtered by Islamic standards. it is not a ruler but a sunna. a sunna (not sure of the spelling) is something that the prophet Muhammad (pbuh) did.
I'm Muslim and i eat at fast food places all the time and their meat is not slaughtered by Islamic standards. So to answer you Q..we can eat any kinds of food except pig (pork.ham.bacon etc..) same with Jews..they cannot eat pork either.
but in extreme situations where there is nothing to eat but pork and someone is in need of food it is acceptable to eat it. in fact you are urged to eat it in this situation to keep yourself alive.

instead of pork many eat sheep, yang rou. There are different muslim countries with different menus.

When I lived in northern china i was partial to chuan dian, which i later found out was a muslim style restaurant. Loosely translates as BBQ restaurant.

chuan is just meat on a stick, with spices like a kabob, at first it's scary cause we hear about unknown meats on sticks but once you know the people and trust them it's no different than worrying what's in your big mac. Another good food was cao bin, roasted bread, kind of like a cajun spicy roll. good.

Perhaps because it was china the chuan dian's had a lot of octopus and squid on a stick too.

below made a clever comment about a spork, a spork is a cross between a spoon and a fork like at KFC, nothing to do with spam or ham.

Observant Muslims only eat halal food, which means that it abides by the Muslim dietary laws. This includes not eating pork. Muslims will eat any kosher food, as all kosher food is automatically halal. There are also more strict versions of halal which only allow Muslims to eat animals slaughtered in a certain way. For more on halal, see http://islam.about.com/cs/dietarylaw/a/halalfood.htm.

EDIT - TO SARAH? - dun u read the quran?
Therefore eat of that on which Allah's name has been mentioned if you are believers in His communications. And what reason have you that you should not eat of that on which Allah's name has been mentioned, and He has already made plain to you what He has forbidden to you-- excepting what you are compelled to; and most surely many would lead (people) astray by their low desires out of ignorance; surely your Lord-- He best knows those who exceed the limits. (Surat al An'am, 6:118-119)

And do not eat of that on which Allah's name has not been mentioned, and that is most surely a transgression (Surat al An'am, 6:121)

In addition, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said:

“Allah the Almighty is pure and accepts ONLY that which is pure. Allah has commanded the faithful to do that which he commanded the Messengers, and the Almighty has said: “O Messengers ! Eat of the pure things and do right”. And Allah the Almighty has said : “O you who believe! Eat of the pure things We have provided you.”
PLUS every muslim who has answered has said HALAL!so it seems like YOU are wrong

Pork. Lots of it. In fact, next time you invite a Muslim friend over - be sure to inform him you made that pork specially for him/her because you heard how much Muslims love to eat it.

Muslims can eat anything that is 'halal'- meaning lawful food. Muslims can not eat pork, animals that hunt with their claws, animals with one hoof, dead animals, and any animal that was slaughtered in a name other than God.

Anything. As far as meat goes we are forbidden from eating pork because pig is dirty. And we can't drink blood, eat carnivorous animals, or drink alcohol or other liquor.

We can eat anything that isnt forbidden

[002.173] He has forbidden you only the Maitah (dead animals), and blood, and the flesh of swine, and that which is slaughtered as a sacrifice for others than God (or has been slaughtered for idols, on which God's Name has not been mentioned while slaughtering). But if one is forced by necessity without willful disobedience nor transgressing due limits, then there is no sin on him. Truly, God is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

[005:003] Forbidden to you (for food) are: Al-Maitah (the dead animals – cattle – beast not slaughtered), blood, the flesh of swine, and that on which God's Name has not been mentioned while slaughtering (that which has been slaughtered as a sacrifice for others than God, or has been slaughtered for idols) and that which has been killed by strangling, or by a violent blow, or by a headlong fall, or by the goring of horns – and that which has been (partly) eaten by a wild animal – unless you are able to slaughter it (before its death) – and that which is sacrificed (slaughtered) on An-Nusub (stone-altars). (Forbidden) also is to use arrows seeking luck or decision; (all) that is Fisqun (disobedience of God and sin). This day, those who disbelieved have given up all hope of your religion; so fear them not, but fear Me. This day, I have perfected your religion for you, completed My Favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islâm as your religion. But as for him who is forced by severe hunger, with no inclination to sin (such can eat these above mentioned meats), then surely, God is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

Mostly depends on your culture, my parents are Pakistani so lots of Spicy foods, like Chicken, Lamb, Beef Curries, and lots of lentils and vegetables. Oh and also roti, and Naan breads
