One of my friends recently crushed up I think 2 Ibuprofen 800mg (prescription pills) and snorted them. Can anyone tell me if this gets you high? Or why someone would do this - or if you know any side effects or bad things that could happen. I want to explain this to my friend - thanks.

As the other answerers mention, ibuprofen is an anti-inflammatory drug. It is very much like asprin and is sold over the counter in the US as 200 mg pills. This class of drugs is generally very safe, which is why you don't need a prescription to buy them, but it is possible to OD, which is why people sometimes try to kill themselves with them.
1600 mg, though, is not really a dangerous dose in and of itself. Also, as far as I know there is no way someone would feel stoned after snorting this drug.
As for side effects, ibu and asprin inhibit blood clotting, so if your friend cut himself he might have to wait a while for a scab to form. But again, 1600 mg isn't going to cause major bleeding. As far as his his nose goes, well powders are abrasive and he might have been blowing blood out the next day. Gross, but not lethal.
I think ibuprofen can cause liver or kidney damage if taken at high levels for a long time. So it probably wouldn't be a good idea to do this regularly or after drinking, but I still don't think he needs to worry that he gave himself liver disease with one experiment.
Since this really wouldn't get him high, except maybe in a psychological way, I think really the only reason he did this is to show off what a bad*ss he is ... and snorting a slightly elevated dose of an anti-inflammatory drug hardly seems to show off much of anything. Oh well, we are all young once. Hopefully your friend won't develop any real substance abuse issues and will someday look back on this with a mild sense of embarrassment and humor.
Of course, if your friend happens to be a hemophiliac, or to have some other blood, heart, liver, or kidney condition, then he did something really, really dangerous and you should probably see if you can talk him into going for counseling. But otherwise, tell him he's a dope and not to bother doing it again, and then laugh it all off.
If you want, you can show him the answers you get and maybe he'll get the picture that he wasn't really accomplishing much with his antics.

I was thinking a bit more about this, and I guess my advice is mostly oriented towards someone who is about 15 ... someone who is starting to explore their boundaries and experiment with their lives.
If your friend is, say, 18, then he's really a bit of a goofball since he should know by now how silly this behavior is.
Alternately, if he is younger, say 12, then maybe you and he should be asking yourselves what it is in his life that is leading him to experiment with drugs and abuse at such a young age. If he is that young, then perhaps you should try to convince him to talk to the school counselors to see if they can help him deal with whatever issues there are with school or his family or himself that are pushing him in a potentially self destructive direction.

Sounds to me like your friend is really just looking for attention. He/She really needs some counseling or help. Ibuprofen causes no sort of high. As a matter of fact, If you didn't see them actually do it, I wouldn't believe that they did. The way ibuprofen 800mg is made, It would be very difficult to crush it up small enough to snort. It's made very hard and thick so It will make it to the intestines with as little damage to the stomach as possible.

As the other poster stated, it will cause bleeding in the nose and nasal passages. Ibuprofen is an ANTI inflammatory drug. Too much can cause GI and liver problems. I don't see where snorting it would get you high.

you should ask the place you are going to, about any type of numbing cream they may have or what they would suggest. you never know if something like oral-gel (for teething pain) may react with being waxed. ibuprofen is not exactly a "pain reliever" for something like this. even though the anti-inflammatory may help. but again i would ask first....

Ibuprofen 800mg is a retard form of Ibuprofen. It is one of the NSAID's (non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) and considered to have minimal risk of causing gastro-intestinal tract disorders. It is used as an analgesic (pain killer) against chronic pains as chronic osteoarthritis. The usual dose is two tablets taken one shot once per day (preferably 3 hours before sleep).

Its not going to harm him its just a weird way to take it. Its prescribed for pain and inflammation.It should be taken with food
