There are more parts on it, it's heavier, less gas mileage, more expense to maintain. On the other hand, if you need the traction, like slippery roads, go off road, pulling a boat or something else, then 4X4 are the way to go. Mine is a 4X4, I don't haul anything with it and rarely use it, but at least I know if I need it, then its there for me. Your call.

The only reason for having four wheel drive is the extra traction. The initial extra cost, the extra maintenance and the lower gas mileage make it an option that one must justify to afford. The 2WD truck is right for commuters and light hauling chores. It is lighter, a little faster, easier to maintain and looks exactly the same except for a sticker on the back.
I drive a 4WD F350 Diesel and I can fill your ears with the additional expenses of the heavier duty truck, but then I need the additional traction and power to haul an assortment of toys to the desert.

I own a Nissan 350Z and I would've expected the Titan to be just as stellar as the Z in reliability, BUT Consumer Reports says reliability has been " WELL BELOW AVERAGE". I think the Japanese haven't got a firm grip on making solid V-8 Engines, YET...BUT I'm sure that will change over time! For now.. In this case, Avoid the Titan, go with the Ford (though I'd NEVER be saying THAT!)

If you live in the snow belt or go off-roading (light trail, not boulders) then you should get the 4x4.
Otherwise, the 4x2 has a better ride and save you on fuel because you're not hauling around an extra 500lbs. in the form of a transfer case, differential, drive shaft and half shafts.

It depends on what you intend to use it for. Do you want it for recreation(going out on trails) or strictly highway driving? Do you need a 4X4 for bad weather or are your streets kept clean during winter? If you don't have an absolute need for a 4X4, then don't psend the extra thousands to purchase it. The trade in value is worse and gasoline can be more expensive to operate not to mention insurance.

I live in a snow belt area my 4x4 was well worth the extra cost. I plow my own 160 foot driveway. I live on a rural county highway. That I have driven home from work with snow drifts over the bumper. I use my 4x4 option, it depends on your driving needs.
