It seems like God would rather me spend my life praising Him than researching a cure for AIDS. Why does this make sense to Christians? Why does God need us to love him, you'd think being the be all and end all would be enough gratifaction.

"Actually He does care about good deeds."

Well why have so many Christians told me good deeds are like filthy rags to God. I assume God doesn't care about filthy rags. i think it's time you guys had a meeting to get your ish together.

God is pleased when we do good deeds. Worshiping God doesn't mean sitting on your thumbs. Jesus instructed us to help the widows and orphans, thus if we obey (and generalize a little to things like researching a cure for aids) then we are worshiping!

You are comparing apples and oranges. The quote about the rags is referring to whether or not you can earn God's acceptance. In that context your good deeds add up to nothing. That is different than doing the good deeds out of obedience to God's command. God's acceptance is a free gift, the appropriate response to such an amazing gift is to follow what he said, i.e. do good deeds.

God is not quite like that. Good deeds are important to God. In fact Jesus told his disciples to do good deeds, to let their light shine before men, which would result in people glorifying God.
Christians are not forgiven, or saved, because of good deeds they have done, but they are forgiven and saved for the purpose of performing good deeds that God has already prepared for them.
To not perform them would be to disobey.
That is why many great scientific breakthroughs, and many altruistic enterprises have been done by true believers in Christ. Have you ever read about George Muller and his orphanages?
So yes, he does want us to research a cure for AIDS. He also wants us to do some work on preventing it as well, of course.

God does care about good deeds. But our deeds or goodness is a result of salvation not steps to attain it.

God desires a relationship with us and through His Son Jesus, this is possible. It is further,my opinion, that His intentions for the relationship is much more for us than for His pleasure.

One of the greatest attributes of God is...his selflessness.

And whatsoever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and that Father by Him. Colossians 3:17
Why wouldn't this make sense to Christians? God doesn't NEED our love, but yes, He WANTS our love.
Your life here is but for a moment, you need to think on a larger scale.....say........ETERNITY!
The thing is, here in this life, people are more likely to remember you for your faults, short-comings, and the wrong things you've done and said. God knows those things about you too, but when you belong to Him and ask His forgiveness, He doesn't see those things anymore. He sees only the perfect love of His Son Jesus. So the real question is this: Do you care about what God thinks of you??

Do you not want love do you not like a little praise from time to time are you not a little jealous from time to time well so is God and that is why we are all of these things because he made man in his Owen image. He does care about good deeds but he wants our love like he loves us I know God is a scorpion because he loves us with all he has think about it he gave up his sons life so that we could live

Actually He does care about good deeds. Praise and worship are more for our needs rather than God's.

Odd that you would ask that question, I believe God care more for the bad deeds because just look all around, news, movies, tv programs, most all of them are about bad things and bad deeds. Otherwise, there would be more news, movies, tv programs with good things and deeds.

Where did you get the idea that God does not want you to do good deeds? The Bible is full of examples of people helping other people. We are meant to be loving and compassionate and to do whatever we can to make another person's life better. In fact, Jesus Himself said..."whatever you do unto these, the least of my bretheren, you do unto me". He was referring to caring about people. Researching AIDS or any other disease, being a good doctor or teaching Sunday school are all things we "do unto Him" Or a simple act of random kindness to another human being. These are all things we are to do. They are "worshiping God" in the greatest sense.

I am a christian completely, but it kills me when i see my other christian fellows destroying humanity. one of my biggest problems with my faith is that it stresses too much on not getting into hell and getting into heaven, rather than creating a good life on earth. I personally think that we should create a "heaven" on earth by doing good deeds that truly benifit the world.

the sad thing is, many people would criticize me for accepting the other people, but i won't give up. I wish that people could let go of their boundaries and bond together with one common goal: to help the world. but... we'll see.
