I am 13 and I am trying to eat healthy, and I am trying to get my mom to do the same thing. We made an agreement on not eating or drinking certain things. She promised me she wouldn't drink Coke, but she keeps buying a 12 pack every week.Today I took some and hid it in my room,so she couldn't find it.I don't know what to do.She isn't that healthy, and I want to fix that.Plus I'm trying to get her to stop chewing ice.Its just causes her more pain.I've tried talking to her,but it doesn't work. What would you do?

Well on the coke drinking I can't realy help becuse it might be the caffine that she likes the feeling of alertness when she drinks it. So she may not want to stop drinking it. Though there are herbs and vitamins that give the same feeling of alertness. On the ice chewing it is a habit. That can be replaced with another habit. Such as chewing on straws then replace that with another habit that will put her in less pain.

1-Lead by example. Continue to eat healthy regardless if you mom does or not. Show her what eating a healthy balanced diet can do for you.

2-Sweeten the agreement. Put money or some sort of reward on eating healthy. It's ok to drink coke sometimes. Just don't drink it everyday all day.

P.S. to the guy above-this girl's name is Tina and her picture is of Chris Brown not herself.

Chewing ice???

Tell your mom to go get blood work done right away.
Doing weird things like that is often a sign of something bad.
My reason for chewing ice was dangerously low iron....it was bad.
Your mom has to make the decision herself to eat healthy. You can't make her do it. You can, however, not do it. When i tried this, i ate healthy all of the time, and my mother didn't. Eventually she saw how much healthier i was, and how skinny i was, she decided that it was her turn to eat healthy.

Lead by example.
Sorry kid, that's the best I can do. Mom's an adult who has lived her life doing what she wanted, when she wanted. And it's hard to change bad habits. Maybe she can agree to stop one "bad" thing at a time...it takes...what, 3 weeks? 6 weeks? to change a bad habit...try that.

Good luck, and congrats on trying to eat healthy.

Relax and don't sweat it so much. You're not your Mom's Dad.

If she doesn't want to do what you agreed to, nothing you can do is going to stop her. The best that you can do is to remind her of your agreement.
