I am a convert to Islam. I took ballet classes since I was 5 years old and I stopped when I was 16. I still dance though, I love it and it keeps me physically fit and healthy. Is it haram to dance just in my own house, or in front of my husband? I am making plans for our new home we are building and I always dreamed of a home with a dance room, wall to wall mirrors and the barre. I have been Muslim for 2 years now, al humdu Allah.

Is it haram for me to continue my ballet in private?

You can continue ballet wherever. How you practice your faith is up to you. In your own home in front of your husband in private isn't problem. He is your husband after all.

With all due respect, your question puzzles me? Do you have any sisters to aks personally?

P.S.
Thank you New York for public service announcement, the whole Religion and Spirituality section can get quite extreme, you may want post this in Politics and Government as well as Society and Culture.

May the peace, blessings and mercy of God be upon you

As long as you are doing it in your own home, and only infront of your husband there is no problem.

But if you are doing shows, which require wearing revealing dresses infront of crowds this would not be permissible.

Peace Be With You

Dancing is haraam in Islam. I think this also applies to doing it in your own home.

You are a slave to a god that does not exist, and you are trapped in a religion that treats you as a non entity.

You already know the answer to your question, why are you asking it. Your a fool.
