No, it's not illegal. When I go on vacation, I mail my pills to my Dad's house along with my extra clothes, etc. Have done this for years.

Yes, it is a felony. In fact it would be more than one felony. First you've got illegal possession of a controlled substance. Using the USPS to commit a felony. Distribution of a controlled substance. Any one of those charges could end up with you behind bars. First offense might get you two years probation, but I wouldn't count on that because the USPS charge would be a federal crime. Just don't do this, it's not worth the risk.

They contract planes. that's how the industry customarily began in this us of a, with the Air provider Pilots donning the mail. Later contracts have been permit to companies like Pitcarin, TWA, American Airway, etc. and that they used particular airplane (see the PA-5 Mailwing interior the Transportation corridor, NASM) to hold the mail. specially instances passengers went alongside too. It wasn't until the DC-3 that passengers generated greater funds than mail.

First, prescription medications are considered controlled substances and are regulated by federal law. If its is not your own you ought not have it and can get in trouble for possession.

Second, check w/ USPS website for contraband list. The USPS has it own federal laws that regulate what can and cannot be shipped. If it IS contraband and you are caught you are looking at 2 federal felonies (federal sentencing guidelines usually do not allow for probation for drug offenses).

Whose prescription is it? Are you are sending you aunt Sally back her own pills she left at your house while on vacation or are you sending your prescription to your friend in NY to sell on the black market? Courts will take that into consideration in determine sentencing..
good luck. I recommend against sending any medications in the mail.
