The risks are the same for a child over the age of six months as an adult. The child will be very groggy most of the day after the procedure. I would suggest you use a anthologists that specializes in children.

My daughter had tubes put in when she was 14 months but had to have several other surgeries before....if baby has asthma then they need to be watched a little more closely and will have to remain in the hospital just a little longer. For the most part though my daughter just seemed to be more drowsy than normal for about 24 hours and for the first couple of hours afterwards was very very floppy...she would lose control of neck and stomache muscles which is pretty normal.
Oh and getting tubes takes like a total of 15 minutes from the time they leave pre op until the time your doctor will come and talk to you....so really she will not be under but for just a couple of minutes.

Alot of times they don't even give children genral anethesia for getting tubes in their ears. They just give them enough gas to put them in a slumber state and bring them out in a very few minutes. Often they don't have IV's or anything. Ask to talk to the anethesiaoligist and they will explain every thing to you. But a simple procedure like this they don't do the whole tube down the throat thing and kids bounce back from it very quickly.
Our local Kosair childrens hospital has information on there website about childrens surgery check and see if your hospital has it or not.

a few days before the procedure u will have a consult with an anesthesiologist and a few minutes before the procedure u will meet with the anesthesiologists and there u can ask all the questions u want.
u can also call the nurses in the day surgery unit and ask some more questions.
u can do research on the internet.
