Fleas respond to vibrations in the ground or your carpet by climbing to the highest point in their surroundings and repeatedly launching themselves into the air in hopes of alighting on a moving object causing the vibrations, usually an animal (man, dog, cat, squirrel). Once on the animal they attach themselves head-first into the skin to begin their feast of blood, their only food, at which time they begin laying eggs for the new generation of fleas.

I had tried all sorts of methods to control fleas short of poisoning my dog, all with poor results, until after a bath with pyridine, I noticed residual flea activity, and washed the dog with ONLY SOAP, which killed all the remaining fleas. I then began bathing with ONLY SOAP, and have never failed to kill all fleas on the dog. Skip the insecticides - the soap works just as well. Also note that fleas cannot swim.

BUT WAIT, the story gets better. I then decided to try JUST SOAP on my patio, walk ways, and lawn, AND I HAVE BEEN FLEA FREE EVER SINCE using laundry detergent applied from a hose-end sprayer. I apply the solution at a rate of 15 ounces per 100 square feet twice each year, once when the daytime temperature reaches 70 degrees daily, and then 4 months later. That is usually around March1 and July 1.

The cost for each application is about $30, using the best generic laundry detergent available.

My dog is allergic to flea saliva, so I have to have a solution to this problem.
