My roomate - who i share a room with, smells bigtime. I've told him time and time again that he needs to change his hygiene, but he's very apathetic/lazy. This isn't the question here.

My question is whether or not I will begin to smell without knowing it? He lives in my room.....has dirty clothes lying around, doesn't shower daily or use deoderant. Occasionally, the smell of mildew will be in our apartment (which I am near positive is due to his nasty bedsheets and dirty clothes)

Will I smell if I live with someone who smells, and live likes a slob.....especially if they sleep in the same room?

I can tell you from my experience working on a hog farm, I would come home smelling like the hogs! My kids would make me hit the shower as soon as I came in, through the back door!
So, yes, if your room mate stinks that bad and he has your apartment smelling that bad, evict him or move! Surely you can get another room mate. If you are in a lease, see what you can do to get out of it, is it in the lease that the apartment has to be kept clean at all times?(Mine has it) Here's a few things to include in getting out of it, worth a try! Get management involved if you have to! 'He is making life unbearable for you!' 'It is unhealthy to be living in the same apartment with him!' Give him a thirty written notice of your intentions(either you will move or he has to move) and why(because he is not keeping the premises in a tidy manner)!
Good Luck!

yes you will start to stink!! maybe shower twice a day or something. ask him if he wants to throw some things in with your laundry while you are doing some. Vacuum often!! buy air freshiners like glade plug ins. If you wont ask him to move out, then you dont really have a choice but to adapt, and do every extra little thing you can do to keep from smelling like him. im sure your house smells like him too!! Tell him it is becoming a problem!!
Good luck!

You most certainly can, if the smell is permeating the air. Just like cooking odors and smoking odors, B.O. can get into your clothes and hair.

Did you ever see the Seinfeld episode about the B.O. car? LOL.
Obviously, that was over the top, but in closed-in spaces, odors cling to fabric and hair and sink right in.

Yes, in time the smell of all his stuff will eventually get to yours. I know, I use to have the exact same problem, but I talked to my roomie and we kinda worked it out. My advice is to have a beautiful girl come to your place and say "this is my roommate ____", She'll most likely change his mind.

That is GROSS! Have you considered asking for a new roomate or moving out? If you've asked him repeatedly, but he refuses to do anything, then you really should try moving out and getting a new roomate or something.

Anyway, I don't think that you will start to smell. Just don't touch his gross stuff, shower often, and keep your stuff clean. And MOVE OUT!

Yes, odours can be contagious. If you cannot get your roommate to clean up his act, then you'd better look for another roommate.

Yuck.
