In "saving private ryan" and a videogame "Call of Duty" there is mentions of a stick, I think both times with a glider. What is a stick?

Depended on the service. There were several things refered to that way. The control column for a fighter was called a stick. One rack of bombs in the bomb bay of a bomber was called a stick. The parachutists coming out during an aerial jump were refered to as a stick. So, it's a bit hard to define it exactly.

A stick acted like a steering wheel except push the stick to the right and the plane went right. Pull the stick toward you and the plane went up. Push the stick forward the plane went down. Most single pilot planes such as the British Hurricane and Spitfires had a stick. The stick on these planes had a trigger on the side at the top of the stick that would activate the machine guns.

In paratrooper language, a "stick" is basically all the personnel that will be going out a particular exit. Portside stick will be going out the port exit, for example.

Makes you wonder a little why an Army Ranger captain would be giving terms to people in a LANDING CRAFT AT SEA in terms of "stick", but that could just be the way they had the crafts and people organized. Rangers are usually jump qualified any way.

As for CoD, I believe all the Yanks in the game are Airborne, so they would use "stick" terms.

A stick was the group of soldiers who jumped together from the plane, I understand that they also trained together with the crew whose plane they would parachute out of.

I'm not sure if this will help with your particular question, but in fighter pilot jargon, a "good stick" is a way of saying someone is a very good pilot.

Not sure if it relates to the game, but many WW2 fighter aircraft were controlled by "Stick " instead of a yoke.
