She has tears that stain her white coat a reddish color? I want to keep her looking clean and healthy but this makes her look sick all the time.

They have a product for that particular purpose. You can probably find it at your local pet store.

I am a poodle owner myself - and have owned maltese and minis before. I know this sounds wierd but as a criminal justice major - I recently had my mind put at ease when I discovered that pepper spray does not work on Dogs because their tear ducts are different (hense how their eyes run rather than cleaning themselves with good old fashioned tears....)

Ok - now for my point (since I just explained that to you)...
I've always been afraid to get soap near my lil' doggies' eyes cause I was afraid it would hurt her. Now, soap and stuff can still irritate thieir eyes - but what my teacher told me, made me think.

My poodle gets like that too - between groomings - and it smells so yucky and sour - and is SO unattractive.........
BTW, I ADORE maltese and I bet your lil one is ADORABLE TOO!

So, one day - being bored, I decided I'd grab an old toothbrush and get that stuff Cleaned up....... Now, it did not make it PERFECT but made a HUGE difference.......

Being a friend of a Dog Groomer (specifically the dog groomer for Sylvia Browne's dogs) I know from the source that many (most) groomers use DAWN dish soap to wash dogs cause it LITTERALLLY "cuts grease"........

Sooo - to ditch those gooey eyes, I put a little water on the tooth brush with some Dawn dish soap - still being cautious not to get it in her eyes. But then I realized..... Women use peroxide (products) to bleach their hair - so why wouldn't it work on a goo-eyed dog....... Well, After rinsing her soap off, I was able to significantly LIGHTEN everything around the boogy area with some peroxide on a toothbrush too...... Let it sit for a few minutes then rinse it.

IT WORKS>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Good Luck - It's not easy holding the Dog down to do though.
I'd do it in a kitchen sink for better leverage if I were you.

Hope I helped.

Meg -

IT's hard i have a toy poodle that has a teary eye and i have tried everything on the market. Someone told me to try lemon juice and water you have to be very careful that you don't get it in her eyes. This seems to work for mine and keeping him cliped under the eyes is good to. Just clip the stained hairs once a week again be very careful.
Hope that helps

To keep the area under their eyes from turning a dirty red color you need to keep the area clean. Try gently rubbing under her eyes with a wet papertowel two times a day-perhaps in the morning and at night.
