i just purchased a used marlin model 88. its a .22 cal semiauto rifle that is tube fed through the stock. what i am wondering is if there is any way to lock the action back in order to clean it? i cant find a way and im wondering if theres some trick to it. the only other thing i can think of is that it has to be fired and lockes back on the last shot. anyone know? also if theres an owners manual out there id love to get a hold of it.

I had a marlin .22 when I was a kid. If I recall, it had a little tab (for lack of a better word) on the action that will lock it back.

Not sure of proper terminology so bear with me. Does the action has a finger pull (lever of sorts) to pull it back? If so, look on the rear of this to see if there is a pin/stop of some sort. That's where mine was.

I don't know this model, but see if the operating knob pushes in or pulls out to lock when you pull it all the way back. Some of the old semis worked like this, for example my Winchester 190.
