And this does relate to dogs because my mom wants to *Shudder* take our dogs' temperature.

It does expire after awhile. I had some old stuff kicking around and it had a funky smell. It was past it's expiration date.

My best guess is that it's been determined that the compound begins to breaks down around the time of expiration. Means it may not be as effective as one before expiration. Chances are, unless it's a year or more beyond, it's probably okay.

It should be fine, how long ago did it expire?

Have you ever noticed that shampoo has an expiration date?

It's just a rule, they have to put it on everything. :)

As long as it's not like 5 years old, then it should be fine.

I can see it having an expiration date. It may start to get hard or glue like. It could also cause an irriation to whatever body part you are using it on.

I'm sure your dog will be fine, aside from the emotional scarring.
