I'm just curious about people's opinions. The two seem to be hand in hand to me, as some great scientists were religious and some great religious men were also scientists. Is the muck up these days all about the seeming regression of thought in both subjects?

I'm editing this to redefine religion as "spirituality"...I know organized religion clashes with science (control of the minds of the flock, etc.)

"You will hardly find one among the profounder sort of scientific minds without a peculiar religious feeling of his own. But it is different from the religion of the naive man." (Einstein)

Those scientists were not religious in the sense that we see today. They were deists, not Christians, there's a big difference. You've got to look very closely at what those scientists actually said, and also consider what they said in the context of the times in which they lived. Remember what happened to Galileo...would you really want to admit to not believing back then?

Science is based on fact, religion is based on belief. They'll never be compatible.

Science keeps disrupting the "truths" of organized religions.

Example: For centuries, organized religions stated categorically that the earth was the center of the universe. They even burned some scientists who said public that the Earth was not the center of the universe, but that the earth traveled around the sun and only the moon circled the earth.

being a muslim, i honestly beleive that religion and science an co-exist. and infact, religion is the old brother of science. science is just the outdated version of religion.
having studied the Quran and the Bible as well, they both compliment each other where they proove scienctific facts that could not have ever been known at that time. like in the quran it describes the big bang, in so much detail, that the old people didnt undersand what its about, it describes how heavens and the earth wrere created from smoke and dust. and the bible, im sure, has very similar miracles.
and infact , thanks to the quran, the arabs where able to develope their medicines, based on description of human from, and how it is in as anembryo:

I think you will find there is a great difference between being a person of faith, and being religious. Einstein had great faith, but was not religious. Faith and science have always co-existed; religion and science rarely have.

Today, you have religious people waging a war against science (ironicaly, using the technology of the internet, and, of course, they will do the childish "I know you are but what am I" response).

I have no problem and Here's Why!!!

Each morning upon rising, and each evening before sleeping, gives thanks for the life within you and for all life, for the good things the Creator has given you and for the opportunity to grow a little more each day. Consider your thoughts and actions of the past day and seek for the courage and strength to be a better person. Seek for the things that will benefit others (everyone).

2. Respect. Respect means "To feel or show honor or esteem for someone or something; to consider the well being of, or to treat someone or something with deference or courtesy". Showing respect is a basic law of life.

3. Once a council has decided something in unity, respect demands that no one speak secretly against what has been decided. If the council has made an error, that error will become apparent to everyone in its own time.

4. Be truthful at all times, and under all conditions.

5. Always treat your guests with honor and consideration. Give of your best food, your best blankets, the best part of your house, and your best service to your guests.

6. The hurt of one is the hurt of all; the honor of one is the honor of all.

7. Receive strangers and outsiders with a loving heart and as members of the human family.

8. All the races and tribes in the world are like the different colored flowers of one meadow. All are beautiful. As children of the Creator they must all be respected.

9. To serve others, to be of some use to family, community, nation, and the world is one of the main purposes for which human beings have been created. Do not fill yourself with your own affairs and forget you’re most important talks. True happiness comes only to those who dedicate their lives to the service of others.

10. Observe moderation and balance in all things.

11. Know those things that lead to your well-being and those things that lead to your destruction.

12. Listen to and follow the guidance given to your heart. Expect guidance to come in many forms; in prayer, in dreams, in times of quiet solitude, and in the words and deeds of wise Elders and friends

Wahoo!!!!

to be honest, science has absolutely no stake in whether or not there is a god. That isn't the goal of science. The goal of science is simply understanding.
Some religions have always had a problem with that. In fact, they've often killed people for trying to understand our world.

Science and religion do go hand in hand in many regards. It is the modern scientist who hasallowed the science to become his dogma, and modern religionist, who tend to be literalist, having a hard time co-existing.

I think they go hand in hand too....after all, God created all things including the laws of science! Unfortunately, we tend to trust the science of man instead of the Word of God....for instance in denying the truths revealed to us through Scripture such as the 6,000 year old age of the earth, etc.

We must still walk by faith, rather than by sight....for man has proven time and time again to have it wrong when he was so sure he was right....but God's word never fails

Both claim to be in posession of absolute trurth. When the absolute truths collide, there is always going to be argument. This is not a new thing: the Catholic church routinely tortured or killed scientists for heresy.

Science examines life. Religion examines spirit. They can and do co-exist. We just have to have an open mind to all ideas.
