I recently saw uncooked black pudding slices to sample at the deli counter in my local Morrisons. I asked if it was OK to eat before cooking and they said YES. I tried it and it was delicious. Asked my local butcher about this and he said a definate NO. Anyone else out there as gross as me and eats raw black Pud? Also any Black Pud recipe #ideas would be great. I like to grill it and eat with HP brown sauce or deep fry in batter and scoff with redcurrant jelly!

you can eat black pudding as it is its already cooked as so many have said you can fry it or warm it in the oven one of the ways we have it is fry some streaky bacon that's been cut into small peaces fry the black pudding till warm through cut into chunks and then make a salad of lettuce and peppers mix in the bacon and black pudding makes sure both bacon and pudding are warm good as a starter. its also nice with sliced onion and cucumber put the sliced onion and cucumber in a dish with a pinch of sugar and some brown vinegar best done the night before make some cheese butties and sit and enjoy picking at the black pudding and the pickles

I do not exactly know but I think Black Pudding has to be the same as: Blodpudding in Sweden. (Blood pudding) Always cut in slices, always fried in butter and served with white cabbage salad and lingonberry jam. Sometimes together with bacon. According to Wikipedia black pudding is known world-wide but eaten in different ways. Maybe you could get some ideas there.

You can't eat black pudding raw. That's minging. The staff at your Morrisons are probably still sniggering now.

Unless of course it wasn't black pudding at all and you are mistaken?

Okay - maybe you can - I wouldn't though - but then I don't like it cooked either so maybe I should just shut up? (God I'm bored - is it 5 o clock yet?)

It is already cooked any way. They are boiled initially after the mix is filled into the casing for about 45 minutes. You will be fine as long as it has been stored properly. It is also cut into chunks and fried along with some bacon and scattered over a salad.

I don't know what your local butcher's talking about; the black pudding you buy IS cooked! People "cook" it to have it hot, as you do.

As to recipes, first buy a pig, kill it, humanely of course, drain the blood & set aside. Strip off the fat and chop. Mix blood & fat, add pepper & lots of preservatives . Place in sausage skins (they used to use the intestines) & boil.

Hope I haven't put you off at all...
