Would a 20 gauge shotgun with the right load be good for starting out turkey hunting?

A 20ga. with a tight choke would work fine for turkey. Just make sure you pattern the gun with several loads to see which one works the best. Also know what the effective range is for the load and keep your shots in that range and you'll be fine. The 20 will have fewer pellets than a 12 but still enough energy in those pellets to cleanly kill a turkey. Just make sure everything is camoed and sit still and you can call a turkey into range. Good luck hunting.

This what I started with a single shot full choke 20 gauge that I shot 3 in mag no.6's more shot. I had to let them get in closer
but I don't take long shots any way on turkeys.
Take this gun and pattern it, 30x30 white paper or card board step off 25yards 75 ft and see how tight your pattern is. In doing this also draw a small circle about the same size as a turkeys head and after you shoot count how many shot are in the circle.
It might take a few shots to figure out where to hold your gun for the best and accurate shot.

I use a remington wingmaster, Its a pump, never failed, its a 20 guage, plus, recoil isnt as bad as a 12 or 10 guage, and it packs more wallop than a 410 or a 16
