It's between 2 and 3 months, depending on your pre-existing fat and muscle stores. That's without any eating whatsoever. Not even a cracker.

A body will do strange things when starving though, especially if food is attainable. You could end up stealing and hoarding food. Often find yourself thinking about food 24/7...watching the food network for entire days...collecting food recipies off of the internet. There was a study done on the effects of starvation where one man tried to chop off his thumb.

Depending on the age, body fat ratio and existing medical conditions, about 4 to 6 weeks. Dehydration will kill you in as little as 3 days.

I'm glad you asked, Grasshopper. It varies. Mahatma Ghandi lasted over 3 weeks on tea only but he pulled out of his fast after the English pulled out. Bobby Sands, the IRA radical activist, lasted close to 50 days before expiring. His last words were alleged to be..."Oh, alright. Go ahead and pass me that Snickers bar." However, the average Somalian can expect effective results after a mere 90 minutes. The average American from Los Angeles will take anywhere from 3-9 months, especially if he passes quickly into 'Extreme Taco-Deprivation Exhaustion'.
Good luck. Don't forget to NOT take your vitamins.

They say that you can go about 40 days without NEEDING food, but it's a disaster to your body. I wouldn't recomend doing it at all. If it is a weight loss attempt diet and excercise is so much better for you!!!

They say 3 minutes without oxygen, 3 days without hydration, and 3 weeks without food. I'm thinking I wouldn't want to test that theory though.

You can go about three weeks without food before you die, but it won't be pretty. The it generally all goes in threes: three minutes without air, three days without water, and three weeks without food.
