The basic buttercream came out harder, and sweeter, than I was hoping for.

Any foolproof recipes?

Any tips re. "you want these ingredients," "don't use too much of X," etc? Light and creamy is what I'm going for, not sugary and hard.

Most whipped cream-type icings (or frostings) actually contain whipped cream.

Put metal beaters, a metal bowl, and the whipping cream itself into a freezer for about 10 minutes.

Whip the cream in the chilled bowl with the chilled beaters, gradually adding 3 tablespoons confectioners' sugar and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract per cup of whipping cream, until medium peaks form. Add more sugar if desired, but be careful to not make the frosting too heavy.

Enjoy!

Whip Cream Frosting:

In saucepan, add 4 tbs flour and 1 cup milk Cook and stir constantly, until thick. Cool. Cream 1 cube oleo (imperial margarine) and ½ cup shortening together. Add 1 cup sugar and 1 tsp vanilla. Cream together. Mix all together on high speed on mixer.

My mom used this on her pineapple whip cream cake, it's my favorite. Not to sweet and very creamy.
