I score high when I take any online or written test describing male depression. Also, I have been diagnosed with Adult ADD. However, I can't seem to convey the depression symtoms to my psydoc. I know it sounds like lying, but I also don't want depression treatment on my medical records. Has anyone ever ordered an SSRI or the like on their own? I'm thinking about using an internet source to keep it confidential.

If you're really that worried about it being in your records, go to a different doctor than you usually use and seek treatment there. Ordering over the internet like that is much more expensive than simply doing it the right way.

Additionally, not all SSRI's are right for everyone, and you really need to make sure you're on the right medication and that you get all of the right instructions. If you're really determined to do it, however, make sure you have thouroughly researched all types of antidepressants, so you know what you're getting yourself into. I recommend crazymeds.org as a good place to start.

And finally, don't buy into the crap that people are telling you about getting over your emotions and dealing with them yourself. REAL depression isn't something you can talk yourself out of. You can't just make it go away because you want it to. People who haven't been there don't understand that. And if they say they've been depressed and made themselves get happy again just by getting control of their own emotions, then they don't understand what medical depression is - it's certainly not a flaw in character.

Sure, some people get better through their faith in God or prayer, but even that doesn't fix everything, just as God doesn't heal everyone with cancer or heart disease. It's a medical condition that can be dealt with, not something that is just in your head.

Treating yourself can be very dangerous, and it would be well worth your while to get it taken care of the right way, even if it hurts your pride or embarrasses you. You have nothing to be ashamed of.

That's odd that you can't get medicine. I went to my general practitioner and said I was feeling symptoms of depression and she just gave me a lot of sample bottles of Cymbalta (which doesn't work at all don't try it) at first, and we've just been trying different meds ever since. I think you need to go to a different doctor. You shouldn't have to go through anything illegal because no matter how confidential it is, if you don't have doctor approval it's illegal and sometimes, not always people get caught. It's on Dateline NBC a lot.

Try taking 1300 or 1700mg of fish oil for a while and if you don't have any improvement in about 6 weeks, talk to your GP about an antidepressant. What the hell difference does it make if it's "on your record"? Explain that one to me. You do realize that your medical records are confientail and there are laws in place to keep your records private, right?

DO NOT self-medicate. SSRI's can have a lot of side-effects and it could be dangerous. Depression is nothing to be ashamed about and many people take medication.

EVERYONE gets depressed. you are in charge of your own happiness. pills only cover the problem. i know what i'm talking about. just go out with friends, have a couple beers, and everything should be OK because you'll have fun and be happy instead of sitting around waiting for pills to kick in.

try exercising. when you exercise your body releases endorphins that make you feel good about yourself. go for a run or lift some weights.

pills might help but like other people said, it can just cover them up. you may have a chemical imbalance that always makes you feel depressed, or you may not just be thinking positively enough about yourself. think about whats going wrong and making you feel depressed. then, think about ways that you can improve these aspects of your life.

There is nothing to be embarrased about if you are diagnosed with depression. We have all had it one time or another. Not a big deal., it's like getting a cold.

Dude go buy yourself a nice satchel of pot and smoke all of it to your head. Cures my depression daily, and gets me actually back in happy mood. No matter what.

No alcohol or hard drugs. Just pot man!
