I have an extreme underbite and my dentist said that only jaw surgery will fix it. However, I'm wondering what the cost would be like? Can someone estimate the amount of money for me? My bottome jaw is around 7mm farther than my top jaw. Will the surgery leave any permanent scars on my face? And do you know how old the person has to be to get the surgery??

Our insurance paid for our daughter's jaw surgery. She had upper jaw surgery though not lower. It cost $20,000 just for the hospital and another $5000 for the surgeon not counting the braces she wore. They moved her upper jaw forward 4mm. She looks amazing. As for permanent scars on your face. I can't say. I do know that they sometimes have to put screws in the jaw from outside but that the incision is quite small. Have you checked out the orthognathic forums on yahoo?
