I have had it done in a salon- the lady who did my hair took a small strand, dragged the straightener to the ends of my hair, and started to flip my hair around the curling iron with her hand. As she released she continued to twist downward until my hair was free! It looked better then any curling iron I ever used! Also make sure you don't have a wide straightener (no bigger then 1 inch). You most certainly can use a straightener! It just takes practice, and I would use lots of hairspray before attempting to curl it so it stays.

I curl my hair with my flat iron all the time. In fact, I can't tell you the last time I used a curling iron. You take the flat iron and clamp it on the hair at the root. Slowly drag the flat iron down the hair until the ends of the hair are not seen anymore, meaning they are in between the flat iron plates. For curling the hair under, roll the flat iron down and depending on how tight you want the curls is how much you roll and how long you hold it there. When you want to release the hair, unravel the flat iron a little and then slowly move your grip off of the barrell so the curls can fall out. For spiral curls, pull the flat iron downwards when you're relasing the hair. Hope I helped.

Take the straightner and pull down on it just like you were trying to make it straight, but once you get to the end, clamp down harder & start kind of rolling it up like a curling iron. It won't actually "curl" your hair, but it gives it that curly flip on the ends.

You can't do that. You have to use a curling iron. Please have common sense.
