Hey, I am attending a party this weekend. The theme is a post-Valentine's Day party with a red motif. Everyone was asked to dress in red, etc.
I was planning to take Cherry Jello shots to this party & was wondering-how to make them? Don't laugh, I want to know if you use the alcohol instead of water or do you add it after you make the Jello-just before you chill it. (I do have the little cups to pour it in).
And, what alcohol would "mix" best with Cherry flavor Jello?

Thanks but this is not a high school party. As I already stated, it is a party with a RED theme.

Jello Shots
Ingredients:
• 6 ounces Jello (large box)
• 2 cups water (boiling)
• 1 cup water (cold)
• 1 cup alcohol (8 ounces)(cold)

Suggested Flavors:
strawberry jello - rum, vodka or vanilla twist
orange jello - peach schnapps or rum
lime jello - tequila
watermelon jello - vodka
grape jello - 1/2 vodka and 1/2 blackberry schnapps
lemon jello - vodka
rasberry jello - vodka
apple jello - buttershots

Directions:
Mix the jello mix with the boiling water until the powder is fully dissolved then add the alcohol and cold water. Spray unflavored cooking spray into small cups. I have found that either 2 ounce solo cups or 1 ounce souffle cups work best. Small medicine cups work fine too. Pour mixture into small cups and freeze.
To make stronger jello shots you can use more alcohol and less cold water, but be careful doing this because the alcohol can sneak up on you! Also if you are using a strong alcohol do not increase the amount because the jello may not set.

Here's a table. Pretty much, the higher the proof, the more water you need to make the jello set:

Proof Alcohol Cold Water
30-50 13 ounces 3 ounces
80-100 10 ounces 6 ounces
150-200 6 ounces 10 ounces

1 cup = 8 ounces

Now some mix-ins:
I love Malibu, with any jello flavor.
Any fruit schanpps.
Blue Curacco (makes it purple)
Triple Sec
Midori could be interesting mix (but it's not red)
Captain Morgan Rum
White Rum
Vodka
Gin

If you want to keep the jello red, stick with clear alcohol, but you're missing out on a lot of good flavors.

You can use just about any alcohol you'd like. Vodka is what's usually used though....it's the old boring standard.

Basically follow the directions on the box but instead of the 1 cup cold water, substitute it with cold alcohol. Once mixed & dissolved, pour into small cups. Use the little plastic white ones that are generally used in the bathroom...they're smooth-surfaced & can bend to easily get the jello out. Refrigerate until it's firmed up & wiggly like jello is supposed to be. Have fun!

I just thought of a really cool idea too!!! Use unflavored gelatin & since that stuff usually doesn't have a color, add red food dye & for the alcohol use Goldschlager. It is a cinnamon schnapps with flakes of edible gold leaf floating around in it. It would be red & sparkly cinnamon flavored shots that would look soooo cool!!!

When I make mine, as the package says, I dissolve the jello in the boiling water. Once dissolved, I transfer to a measuring bowl with a pour spout. Then add 1/2 the amount of cold water and the other 1/2 alcohol of the remaining to put in. Stir it up and pour into the cups, then chill.
You can add just about any kind of liquor you want. Vodka is the old standard. If you really want to have fun, pick a jello like strawberry or watermelon and use flavored liquor. Remember if you want them to stay red use a clear liquor or one that has a red color to it. Good luck and enjoy!!

Cherry Jello shots are my favorite! I always use vodka. The recipe on the jello box probably says something like boil 2 cups water, mix in bowl with jello till dissolved and then add 2 cups cold water, chill....I boil 2 cups water, mix with the jello and then instead of adding cold water I add vodka. If you do not want them that strong the you can do half cold water half vodka. Hope this helps and have fun at that party!

The easiest way to make jello shots is to exchange the liqueur (works best if ice cold) for the cold water. vodka and rum are both good choices however if you want to change it up us tequila and sour mix for a cherry margarita shot. If you like a sweeter shot you can try any schnapps flavor or puckers also work well for a mixed fruit flavor. Keep in mind that if you use a colored liqueur your jello will change colors to. One last tip for the jello shots. Spray the cups lightly with non stick cooking spray and this will keep the jello from sticking to the cups.

Use 1/2 the amount of water that it calls for. Use the other 1/2 as alcohol. Generally, you'd want something to compliment whatever the jello flavor was. Since you're using cherry jello, I'd recomend vanilla vodka. If you wanted strawberry jello instead, but could use 1/4 vodka and 1/4 strawberry schnapps.

(could also use 7Up instead of water.......)

I am the Jello-shots queen. In my opinion, the best Jello-shots are used with the Black Cherry Jello and Peach Schnapps. Sounds like a weird combo, but trust me, it tastes amazing and you don't even taste the alcohol (although you DO feel it later). Vodka is also good with any flavor of Jello. Here's what I do for my Jello-shots:

- Choose Jello flavor of choice (large box) and pour into a med-size bowl.
- Pour in one cup of boiling water and stir for approx 2 mins.
- Pour in one cup of alcohol of choice and stir for 30 secs.
- Pour into small 1oz cups (easy to find at Smart N Final or a party supply store)
- Refrigerate until set and then enjoy!

(You gotta try the Black Cherry ones - they are the best!)

Berry Sour Apple Jello Shots:

4¼ hours 5 min prep
36 servings

2 (3 ounce) boxes raspberry Jell-O gelatin (or strawberry, cherry or mixed berry, but I prefer the raspberry)
1 1/2 cups very hot water, not quite boiling
1 cup bacardi golden rum (depends how strong you want them, I use just 1 cup)
1/2 cup sour apple liqueur (Pucker brand schnapps)

1. Place very hot water in a bowl; add jell-o powder and mix thoroughly to completely dissolve the powder.
2. Stir in rum and Pucker.
3. Pour into a lighly greased (for easier removal) rectangular pan.
4. Cover and chill at least 4 hours or until completely set.
5. Cut into squares or use small cookie cutters to cut shapes and place each in a foil mini loaf or foil cupcake baking liner.
6. Keep out of the kids' reach.
7. Serve cold.
