Remember that more than just Catholics celebrate Lent, and also, why are you telling people what you are giving up? Didn't Christ say not to flaunt when you are fasting? Yes, fasting is hard, but it is a personal thing and should be between you and Christ.

The disciplines of Lent include prayer and acts of love as well as fasting. Are you going to declare everytime you pray during Lent too? Just a thought for you to ponder. It's a personal journey that should be between you and your savior only.

This year, I'm doing a kind of "reverse Lent." Instead of giving something up, I'm going to do something positive each day for someone -- including myself.

My 2 teenagers are giving up meat for lent- however the choir at our church is starting to do kind of something opposite of what is normally done at lent- do something nice for others and give something to someone else- when you think about it, isnt that what Christ did- He gave Himself for us- so we should give ourselves for others- except maybe not just at lent. What do you think?

I think all Christians should give up talking for Lent. Then the world will be a much quieter place.

I gave up Catholicism, but that was long ago.

I hope that you find Lent a truly spiritual time, and that what you give up, you do so for spiritual growth.

You need both to keep it in balance giving up and starting positive habits.
