It is a possibility.

First thing is to NOT use that computer at all. The more you use it the less chance you will be able to recover some of the data.

If the files were business associated, your "Technical operator" should have known to ask if you needed any data backed up before he went ahead with this restore.

Get a data recovery program such as "Easy Recovery Pro", connect the hard drive from your machine to another machine and run it from that one.

Your best bet would be to have someone who has done it before take care of it for you.

What you need is a software called Stellar Phoenix it is available for All the different file systems. You will be able to back up all the data that has been formatted as long as that information has not already been written over by the new install. For example if the OS that you are currently using takes up the first 8% of your hard drive, then you should be able to recover any information that was stored on the rest of the last 92%.

NOTE: This is a very time consuming process, but it works and I have used it for the same thing.

Good Luck! Here is a link.

(If you find that it is too expensive then email me and I will talk to you further about the free version)...

Not easily. Even if you scanned the hard drive with Data Recovery software there is no guarantee it would find anything since much of the data was probably overwritten when the software was reinstalled. You should have backed up your data, but your "technical operator" should also have checked with you to see if you had any data...he could have gotten to it if you needed it badly enough.
