can i still take my xanax with this? also, what are the side effects of fluoxetine? i told my doctor i have anxiety & panic attacks, is this a normal dosage for that? i heard that 20mg once a day is usually used for depression.

Yes you can. In fact fluoxetine and xanax have a synergistic effect, making the effect of xanax stronger.
The dose for depression depends on the patient, but 20 mg would be a minimum. Anxiety can be caused as a side-effect of fluoxetine when you first start taking the drug and when you change abruptly the dose (that's why you change it gradually when necessary).
You should talk to your doctor so that he/she can help you regulate the dose of both medications so that you don't experience side-effects or to check whether fluoxetine is not suitable for you.
