My good friend is throwing a suprise birthday party for his fiancee. He sent out invites, which means that he is expecting a gift, or so I would imagine. We are aquaintences (she and I ) and only hangout when the group of us get together. She is turning 30. What is a good gift to give? I am thinking a bottle of wine? Any other suggestions?

I think a bottle of wine or other beverage (Bailey's would be my choice) is a great idea. They aren't necessarily expecting gifts, so if you show up with a bottle of wine then it could be used as a gift or just a nice jester for the hosts. So I also wouldn't wrap it - just use a bag and have a card handy, but not attached.

Chances are she will get about 10 bottles of wine. Get her a gift certificate to get a manicure and pedicure. It will help you stand out from all those bottles of wine and its something that she will really enjoy. Or an interesting book. I always find that a quirky little book make a big impression on people.

You should ask your friend first. A bottle of wine is a great idea but you should make sure that she's a drinker first. If not then a gift certificate for a nice restaurant would be acceptable.

A gift certificate to Bath and Body Works would be great.

Gift cards, bottles of wine, and just a nice card are all acceptable.

Ask your friend what she would want. Gift certificates are also usually a good idea.

Those who "expect" gifts don't deserve them.

However, you could give her a gift certificate to their favourite restaurant so that she and your friend may enjoy the gift together.
