I want to edit a movie but have been using USB forever. Quality is really bad when burned on a DVD. But looks good when not sent through computer. I have a camera that came out when firewire 400 was out so i guess its 1394a. Does the quality look better camera to computer to dvd. Or camera to computer to camera to dvd?

Yes. Here's why. USB 2.0's top speed is 480 Mb/s. Firewire400 and 800, well it's pretty obvious. But firewire 400 (which is pretty much what all firewire is right now), is still better than USB 2.0 for transferring DV video, because it has a higher average data rate. So while USB 2.0 might hit 480 once in a while, firewire keeps transferring video at a constant high rate to maintain quality. Firewire 800 is backwards compatible so you'll be fine, but I don't think you'll be seeing any on camcorders yet (the only Firewire 800 interfaces I've seen are ports on newer computers). Hope this helps!

Although firewire will work better for the transfer of data, I suspect your issue is with the editing software and how you are manipulating it. Go through all the options on resolution and format, etc. and tweak it out.

USB is much better for small files. But movies are not small files, and Firewire is much better for transfering bigger files faster. So for your home movie firewire would be a much better choice

Firewire is persisted bitrate flow. apart from, my Video digital camera basically has a firewire connector. USB does issues in a burst. In useful words, the firewire is barely noticeable for me on a similar time as taking photos the video sign from the digital camera. After that, i'm happy I definitely have a sixty 4-bit gadget which slams records around lots swifter to a SATA force. apparently, i hit upon that's the CPU that gets used at ninety% while rendering a transformation to the video action picture. My 4-gig of RAM on no account gets used infrequently in any respect. area II in case you manually assign the router IP handle as a replace of leaving it on the default of DNS, you could block instruments mutually with a modem. For a 2 pc community with a router / severe-speed cable modem, i do no longer prefer to spend the 0.5 day had to debug the routing. If i became into .torrents in a large way, i might benefit a swifter acquire with instruction manual addressing -- in the process the only spectacular a million meg of the document acquire. i ought to conceive of the thank you to dam the port completely for downloads. confident, it rather is done.
