Yes - I am a fanatic about double-checking the doors and gates. I have even gotten out of bed in the middle of the night to be sure I locked everything up. And I'm with you on the meal thing!! LOL

Everybody has a little OCD in them, from little habits, to life long habits. OCD the mental illness is when it gets so bad that it interferes with the way you live your life, an exampleis if you can't leave the house without turning the lights on or off 115 times, or have to miss business meetings because it's been raining for over an hour. You might have severe habits but I doubt it's anything towards the mental illness of suffering from OCD.

I do somewhat. Like I go absolutly nuts if I touch anything that may or may not have germs on it; desk, gym floor, ect. Here are symptoms of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder:

Obsessions as defined by:

1. Recurrent and persistent thoughts, impulses, or images that are experienced, at some time during the disturbance, as intrusive and inappropriate and that cause marked anxiety or distress

2. The thoughts, impulses, or images are not simply excessive worries about real-life problems

3. The person attempts to ignore or suppress such thoughts, impulses, or images, or to neutralize them with some other thought or action

4. The person recognizes that the obsessional thoughts, impulses, or images are a product of his or her own mind (not imposed from without as in thought insertion)

Compulsions as defined by:

1. Repetitive behaviors (e.g., hand washing, ordering, checking) or mental acts (e.g., praying, counting, repeating words silently) that the person feels driven to perform in response to an obsession, or according to rules that must be applied rigidly

2. The behaviors or mental acts are aimed at preventing or reducing distress or preventing some dreaded event or situation; however, these behaviors or mental acts either are not connected in a realistic way with what they are designed to neutralize or prevent or are clearly excessive

--- AND: ---

At some point during the course of the disorder, the adult has recognized that the obsessions or compulsions are excessive or unreasonable (not applicable to children).

The obsessions or compulsions cause marked distress, are time consuming (take more than 1 hour a day), or significantly interfere with the person's normal routine, occupational (or academic) functioning, or usual social activities or relationships.

If another disorder is present, the content of the obsessions or compulsions is not restricted to it. The disturbance is not due to the direct physiological effects of a substance (e.g., a drug of abuse, a medication) or a general medical condition.

I'm mainly #1 for Compulsions. >:)

I think I have some OCD, especially sometimes when cleaning my house, or when I'm at the grocery store.

When I'm at the grocery store, for example, I might take a ridiculous amount of time picking out a piece of fruit or a product off the shelf, always looks for the best expiration date etc.

I can also be OCD about my laundry.. I don't like anyone else doing it cause I think they'll mess it all up.

I also think that in alot of cases OCD can be linked to anxiety and/or depression, cause I know in my case it is.

I think you sound perfectly normal, its just your routine. I do silly little things too, my car radio has to be on voumes 10, 12, 15 or 18! If i am sitting with other people I also join them up in different ways in my head, i link them with lines - sounds very strange I know!

There are loads of signs of OCD but I think if it is not interferring with your daily life then you have nothing to worry about. When you start to wash your hands 100 times before leaving the house, or turning the taps on and off 50 times before a bath then you should perhaps see a doctor.

I think there are many people who to some degree or another like things just so or done in a certain way but it only becomes a problem when it effects daily living for example having to keep redoing things over and over again, compulsive hand washing, fear of becoming seriously ill, constant worry over things happening such as the house burning down and this fear taking over your life, needed to touch things a certain number of times or turn the light on and off till it feels right, wow theres so many things I could be here all day. I think the signs you describe are compulsive but not overly so that they would seriously interefere with life however if you feel there is much more and it is taking over your life its always best to seek help

I think its just a Fad. For some odd reason people think its neat or makes them more interesting if they have OCD. In addition I think recent (or not so) movies and TV lead us to believe this is true.
i.e. "Monk" or "As good as it gets".

Humans tend to do things out of habit or routine. In a world of chaos, its no wonder why we do things that we are comfortable with.

I know I get annoyed when I hear someone trying to convince themselves that they have OCD.

OCD will run its course just like ADD or ADHD or whatever its called nowdays.
First only a few will have it. Then more people will have it. Then EVERYONE will have it. Only then will it start to fall out of the mainstream.
We are who we are people. Get over it.

I can't wait.

The even number thing suggest you may have a mild case of OCD. Alot of people with OCD have to stop something on an even or odd number or they cannot do anything until its fixed.
You may need to get checked at a speciality place, or if it doesn't really bother you...dont worry about it too much.

I also have to eat the worst parts of a meal first,I have to have all the candles, pictures, coasters etc in the house symmetrical,I'll only wear white trainers & if they get a spot of dirt on they have to go in the washing machine (which aint easy in this weather!) and I have to check my alarm clock several times before I go to sleep (even though I know it goes off at the same time every day & is always set!)

Everyone has signs of OCD, but when it starts interfering with your life, i.e. CANNOT leave the house until you wash your hands like 20 times or lock and unlock a door for half an hour, you're not serious enough to be diagnosed.
