canon, the only sony cameras that perform better than the sd600 cost $100-$200 more. memory is standard SD so you wont have to fork out 60$ for pro duo memory but rather $20 to be able to hold tons of pictures.
otherwise they are very similar cameras... only canon is cheaper. both pretty well made i havent seen any returned.

I also agree with the other two answers. Canon's are generally better than Sony's (although there are some good Sony cameras). If you want a small point and shoot, it's tough to go wrong with the Canon SD series. Looking at the relative ratings and all the reviews, Canon's generally come out ahead of Sony's.

Sunshine is correct. However the camera I recommend is the Sony CyberShot DSC-H2. If you want lots of zoom it's got it at 12X optical zoom, 6 megapixels, image stabilizer, great on batteries...comes with batteries and charger. Can be bought for $300- Excellent 8X10s when enlarged. Other than a single lens reflex camera I wouldn't trade this for any other. I own one.
