I started taking fluoxetine 20mg once a day after being on Xanax XR .5 mg 1-2 times a day for a week. The doctor told me to keep taking the Xanax Xr with the fluoxetine. That's just my doctor, so I would definitely check with your own or even the pharmacist. So far, no bad side effects from taking both together and it's been 3 days. My doctor told me to start at 20 mg and gradually move up to 40 or even 80 mg. I guess it just depends on each individuals tolerance to it.
