i know that putting them in an open custudy home for young offender will be like sending them to a really fun summer camp.
i have worked in such places.
the real answer is to allow the courts to conduct a review of there family home life. if its off the wall then placing them with a sensible family or in a home with professional workers might work.
some of the yo kids should be whipped. others put in stonches
this is really the best thing for them . so often they take being put in closed custudy places as a badge of honnor.
whipping then and giving then hard labour really hard labour is the way to go for most . no person young or old should see being locked up as a pleasent thing to have happen .
a combination of physical punishment along with placement in an enviorment that provides encouragement for being and doing good is i think the best way to go.
some countries dont remove children from so called bad homes as fast as others instead they send a worker to the home to teach everyone how to deal with one another . i have read this is the best way to go about it. i think some combination of all of the systems should be used . the judges should have a huge amount of room to adjust the sentence to please the public and help the child .
there is nothing wrong with using the rod to correct a child . God even said the rod is something to be used.
dont be a person who hides your head from the truth . Y.O.
centres are at this time very pleasent and for most are just as i said summer camps for the kids. trips to the pool the park the mall the movies all over take place this is really a great fun place for most of the kids.

The dollar amount suggests a felony. They should receive a fare trial and if convicted they should spend time in jail for a minimum of 6 months. The 17 year olds should do a year yet offer them the option of joining the military upon their 18th birthday in lieu of jail time.
Mandate counseling, make their parents repay the $3000 plus court costs, and do 160 hours of community service.
There record will be sealed and unavailable to any possible employment agencies even if they eventually want to work in law enforcement someday.

They should do civic duties until they earn the money back. Their parents should put up money for the kids ahead of time to make sure that the kids follow through with the demands of the duties that they are to perform. Their names and pic's should be put into the paper locally even though they are minors. They should be further reprimanded or told to have no further contact with each other until they are 21 years of age. If they break any of these rules they are to be put into the local jail for at least 3 months. One month for each thousand dollars. The parents should be held into contempt of court if they ( the Kids ) do not as well follow through with this plan. A lesson needs to be learned by all. Kids and parents. !!

being 17, committing a burglary, the dollar amount of the property taken, I'm not so sure they will be tried in the juvenile system, just maybe the prosecutor will step up to the plate and try them as adults, and they will get what they deserve, some serious time in jail and a record that will follow them until they die.

First of all, at those ages they are NOT kids. They deserve to be put in jail & restitution made. They should be placed into a community service program for, my choice, a YEAR! They should have strikes against their record, giving 2 of them the chance to change their thinking & the third a big wake up call. One more & he is OUT!!!!
If it had been MY house, I would have pressed charges to the full extent of the law. Like I said, these are NOT kids!!!

If you make them go to jail, or put them in a "special" place these kids are bound to do it again someday. They will feel like "losers" and will carry a chip on their shoulder feeling that someone did them wrong. The correct way is to make them work hard (community service) to repay back twice what they stole and give them counseling. Don't throw them into the system and forget about them. Kids are our future. The kid that you passed up on the side of the street today could be the same person to put a bullet through your head in 10yrs or the one who will be cleaning your diapers in a nursing home when you are old. THINK THINK THINK!

The crime of burglary requires the entering of a residence with the intent to commit a crime. Since they committed grand theft(theft of over $300), it is a felony. But since they are minors, the penalty is less. They may have to serve time in a juvenile hall, but they could be tried as adults, considering the theft was so great.

They are minors. Period. The one with the prior record will probably go to a Juvenile Detention Center. The other 2 will probably get probation. That would be the fair punishment. If they were adults that would be a felony so they are lucky.

I sure wish they would have broken into my home, I have two 4 legged land sharks that will allow them entry, but they can never exit, at least not in one piece. But for those punks, they need to get some jail time and shower time too.(so someone can break into them).
