I highly do not recommend the DVD camcorder because one might be recording something and in case the disc gets scratched by shaking of the camera either while running with it or just swinging your arm having it on pause, the disc can be destroyed/scratched. Therefore all content is lost. This has happened to a guy who does weddings and lost the whole content. He NOW uses normal miniDV or HD quality tapes on his high end $4000 camcorders. No to DVD camcorders. miniDV or maybe the new hard drive based camcorders would be good. But do not know much harddrive camcorders. Plus miniDV tapes can be easily be converted to DVD with software these days and edited also.

prices always lower, depends how you are gonig to use camera, Mini DV are great camcorders and obviously the cheapest. DVD are good if you want to avoid the computer altogether... otherwise they arent great because at max resolution you are limited to about 20 minutes of recording time... in my opinion if you are going to burn dvd's use a hard drive camera. no quality loss when burning as you would get with a dvd/minidv and you can have hours and hours of recording time.

Try camcorderinfo.com. Spend a half-hour (or longer) there, and you pretty much know everything you need to know. Hope this helps!
